Thank you to Mensabum and Cue Alchemist

Just wanted to make a public thank you to Mensabum and Cue Alchemist.

I happened to mention in passing on a thread on here that I don't have a cue. Used to play English pool and the last few years I've taken up playing 9 ball instead, have really fallen in love with the game. But at the moment I'm a student as decided to try to make a mid life career change so not had spare cash to get myself a cue for 9 ball (the tip on my cue from English pool is far too small to use with American sized balls).

Mensabum direct messaged to say he'd like to sort me out with a cue. And Cue Alchemist helped him sort out the delivery.

Really touched by such a random act of kindness. Got the cue earlier this week, took it to my local club for a practice yesterday and really happy without how it plays. Will be playing my first match with it later tonight, which I'm excited for. On a bit of a losing streak against my friend, so hoping to turn that around.

I've enjoyed reading and posting on AZ Billiards since I got into 9 ball. It's a really great community. But still amazed to be on the receiving end of such a kind deed. Can hopefully pay it forward some day in the future.

Thank again guys.
AZB is pretty awesome.

Why don't more bars lease Diamond pool tables?

Well come on out to the wilds of the middle of Montana and show me where these pool halls are that aren't 100 + miles away in just one direction ha ha when George Frank had the Corner Pocket Billards going strong many years ago yes pool halls were a bit more common until a host of things happened and they all faded into the sunset .
But the OP said Austin, Texas, not Montana. Isn't everything a long drive away in Montana??

Kamui Tips Q/A

I can just imagine , I never went on the road playing pool even though Billy Saunders tried hard to get me to go with him , I had a wife and kids , and she was a needy one and not always in a good way . A divorce was a good investment in that case !

So,yes I should've hot the road with Billy ha ha !
You were smarter than me. I was a poolroom bum even after getting married. I did not want a job. I'd rather lay in wait for a live one, or go on the hunt. I just wanted to play pool every day and make a little money doing it.

Push Foul Explanation

Does a narrow tip contact the CB farther from center?

It can. Hit the same shot with a 12.5mm tip and then a 11mm tip. Watch how much english is imparted to the cue ball and how much it spins off the rail. Let me know what you think.

Popular belief is that no matter the tip size the same amount of contact with the cue ball is made. I would dispute that.

The place I play has all Diamonds, 9’s in the front and 7’s in the back for leagues. The guy that owns the place is a Diamond Dealer as well as owning a table
moving/repair/recovering business. Even he has a hard time keeping the bar boxes in good shape, those league people beat those tables to death.

He’ll recover them all and within a week the damage to the new cloth from bangers getting food stains on it because they can’t seem to reconcile that if you want to eat chicken wings, you should eat your wings, wash your hands and then reconvene play seems lost on the drunken league animals. They don’t respect anything.

I find that in my room also.
Some that play in the evening leagues on the Diamond bar boxes have little or no respect for the equipment.

Sad but true , I play in two of the three pool leagues in the small town near my home , and we police the food eaters during a match rather closely so that doesn't happen often ,

Kamui Tips Q/A

Live and learn Rusty. I had all my own tools to change tips, clean up nicks and do general cue maintenance. My motel room was often my work shop. You could come into my room and see a cue in the corner upside down, new tip on the floor drying. I'd leave it like that overnight and be able to shape it the next day. Oh yeah!
