The CARBON FIBER Shaft With the LEAST Cue Ball DEFLECTION

Personally, I don't care how a cue sounds or feels or looks. I just care that the CB goes where I want with the speed and spin I want. See:

I am the complete opposite, sound and feel are paramount to me. Of course I want the cue to go where I aim, but I will learn these nuances over time, as one does anytime they change equipment.

A certain putter manufacturer always says that sound=feel=confidence, and personally I agree.

New Here? - Introduce Yourself

Hello, new player saying hi.

Started playing a few months ago. ...
Where do you live? There might be a good instructor in your area who could check your fundamentals.

Some leagues are better than others. If you aren't playing at least half the time you are at the venue, the main value will be social. If you get pointers in league, filter them very carefully. "Jack up and snap the cue back for backspin. Lots of wrist."

There are lots of videos of pro players. See which ones have the most solid fundamentals. Keep it simple. Video record yourself.

what pros play with maple regular deflection shafts ?

it is hard to make any objective conclusion since top pros are paid to play with certain new or in vogue equipment. so they will have to favor the newest or most expensive shafts and cues . and they will play just fine with any cue or with any shaft on it.

and so since many players follow what pros do or at least mimic them no real conclusion can be inferred.

so as always it boils down to what works for you.

the 400 you spend on a new shaft might make you a little better but maybe not as much better if you spent that 400 on lessons.

ive hit some black shafts and they are fine but i play with old maple shafts made for me years back. with lots of deflection.

i cant really think of any time deflection made me miss or caused me not to shoot a shot the way i wanted.
you get to know how much over to hit the object ball. just like you have to do with throw , or any english.

So after seeing this thread brought up, I picked up the oldest, biggest diameter cue that was handy and hit some balls. An ‘80’s Huebler I have never quite loved. I was hitting them pretty well. Maybe pivot point, maybe me experimenting with BHE. I dunno. Is it that my first experience with pool was 13mm regular maple shafts? Wondering if old school might be for me.🤔

Fargo rate question

[...]

If the only new data between yesterday and today were the 5 league matches where you went 5-0, then the only thing that makes sense is your prior opponents from the 353 stunk it up in their own matches the past few days.
Prior opponents doing poorly is rarely the main story.

Think of it like a 401(k). Your account usually does not fall because one stock had a bad day. It falls because the whole sector you were heavily invested in got repriced.

Fargo works similarly. If most of your opponents come from the same league, town, or player pool, those opponents are correlated. So when the system learns that that whole pool was a little stronger or weaker than previously thought, your rating can move too, even if you have not played and even if your opponents have not played.

A player with a more diversified mix of opponents is less exposed to those tide shifts.

John Schmidt runs 820

I personally have Shaw at 714 (before he ran the 830 something). I understand all the hoopla about the touched ball and the BCA changing it to 669. Almost the entire country on every tournament plays cb fouls only. I watched his 714 live (the last hour or so), and I bought the zip drive that was advertised as 714.

Hell, he even got a 714 tattoo!

Same as I have Schmidt at 820. Yes, I saw the nudged OB.

To each his own. All of those runs were amazing.

10 best players in the world

Not even close? I think he is pretty close after the 3 you named.

Who would you put after Efren, SVB, and Earl? Surely Filler is Top 5 at least based on his accolades so far. But I agree that more time needs to be passed before Mt. Rushmore conversation, as he is still young and may not have even hit his prime yet.
I'd put filler, Sigel, and a decade or so ago I would've included Archer, but that's the nature of the beast, who has the staying power is the biggest question.

My Fargorate progression

That might be the best I played in a long time. I played really good, got some rolls, and he played bad the first half. He did play much better the second half.

Won 5-1
Won 5-1 (win match 1)
Won 5-1
Lost 2-5
Won 5-3 (win match 2)
Won 5-1 (single set only since we had to give up the table for league players)

Won 27 lost 9 games

Funny, the last time we played a couple months ago he beat me 7-0 first set (I played like dog poop), and he was up 1-0 second set when I quit mid set to bet the ghost vs someone for 1k. haha.

What to ask cuemaker if I want a real shiny, glossy, lustrous finish?

One of the cues you mentioned is Jacoby. You probably think that because of some photos you saw. I can assure you that their finish is glossy and deep looking. I have 2 Jacobys and the finish is superb. Many by me shoot Jacobys near me as they are somewhat local, and just a great cue if you can find a design you like. This picture is from one I picked up late last fall and while the picture may not show it, it is very glossy.

what pros play with maple regular deflection shafts ?

If you look hard enough, you'll always find the exception....
I bet that if we check the player's rosters of the WPA and now the WNT junior events, we'll find much more CF shafts users than wood.

Again, we live in the transition era of pool equipment, it might take 10 to 20 years to complete.

trying to check which pro is using wood is trying to justify one's choice, might as well ask which pros are using a specific brand to feel good about one's choice.

how about ALL the young heyball players.. mickey krause plays with maple shaft, and as mentioned the ko brothers, etc. there's nothing you can do with the cue ball with a cf shaft that you can't do with a wood shaft
