ok folks just wanted your review of the shane and alex dvd! what is your opinion of the match! i know it was the best match i have ever seen! just wondering now that its out on dvd what all of you that have seen it think about it! i have watched it 3 times now! love it!:D

Didn't buy the DVD...

but I did see the clip on your website. From what I heard, I didn't care much for Jeanette's commentary. It's probably just me, but she annoys me. The video portion was too fixed, meaning only one camera position.

Thanks for contributing to a thread for those that actually have seen the DVD... From what you heard, you didn't care much for Jeanette's commentary? Did the voices tell you this?

Chad I am down here in Comumbia, SC for Grady's tournament but I am looking forward to getting back home so I can watch the DVD and see the match again.

I saw this match in person and it was by far the best and most exciting match I've ever seen. A must see for any fan of pool.

lol now that is funny deadpoked. being sarcastic towards big c and you have not seen the dvd yet either !!! lol it does not matter anyway all this post is in my opinion is a commercial for tar to sell more dvds.

what happened to the earl vs shane match?

Well you are half right. If people who actually bought the DVD's come here and give good reviews we probably will sell some more. The flip side is they can also come here and say they are the biggest piece of crap they have ever purchased in which case we probably won't sell too many.

We have been doing this for a grand total of about 7 months now. If you are looking for Accu-Stats style production values let me save you the time, we don't have 'em. What we got is high quality single camera coverage of 2 of the best players in the world matching up for real money at the premeire action event in the world. It also happens that this match took place in a legendary room that the pool world will never see again (due to hotel remodeling). The fact that it goes hill-hill and they play one game for the dough is just a bonus.

This is a way for us to get honest opinions about our product. I expect to get opinions from all across the spectrum, it just depends on what someone expects. I am the guy that does all of the video work, I edited my first video about 6 months ago. A few days after I turned on a serious videocamera for the first time. The reason there are some audio issues on some of our stuff is because 6 months ago the only mic I had ever used was at a drive thru. There is a little bit of a learning curve to the whole video production thing. We are working on it and getting better but we are far from perfect.

One thing I absolutely guarantee is that if someone feels like they didn't get their money's worth they get a full refund no questions asked.

As far as not liking the commentary or something else, that is going to happen and I am glad the guy watched the promo and decided it wasnt for him based on that. Saved us both time and trouble. Maybe next time we will have someone he likes and he will give us a try. One thing I have learned quickly is that you can not please everyone. All we can do is produce the best product we are able to, stand behind it and treat our customers the way we want to be treated. Thanks to the support of many here and from other places we have been able to come this far, I hope we can prove worthy of all the support and improve and do bigger and better things.

We look forward to all of the opinions and reviews. Good, bad or indifferent.

We have not mentioned that because we were hoping to come up with a fix for a problem that occured. Since that doesn't look like its going to happen right away I'll give you the scoop.

The hard drive that we have the footage on malfunctioned and will not read. We sent it to a data recovery center who told us they can't fix it but knew a place that could. After checking to make sure it wasn't a scam and the second place was legit we agreed. Bottom line is it will cost $1500 to recover the data with no guarantee we will get it all. Hopefully in the future we will be able to attempt it. For the near future it is not an option so there will be no Earl vs Shane match unless/until we can pay for the recovery and it is succesful.

A nice brisk kick in the nuts for us all.

I like your attitude Justin, its a good one to have in the pool world, especially when you doing business, you gotta be level headed and thick skinned as all on here arent so friendly or forgiving.

I just finished watching the Shane - Alex match, and it really was fantastic. It's a big piece of pool history and I fully recommend everyone to buy a copy.

Production was excellent and the video was crystal clear. I have no problem with the fixed camera at all. There is nothing more frustrating than camera work by a non-pool playing cameraman (I just watched a Balukas match where the cameraman followed the object ball around like a dog chasing a ball, even for obvious safeties where you want to see what the CUE BALL is doing!). In this match, no shot was obstructed and everything was clear.

I would say that Shane played better in his match against Corey Deuel, but that helped make this a more exciting match. His break wasn't working quite as well and he was making an occasional mistake. This brought the match to its predestined Hill-Hill!

Alex is perpetually entertaining and I love to watch him in any match. What I really liked is that they both displayed such mutual respect and admiration for one another that it was refreshing. They both played really hard but seemed comfortable and at ease.

The commentary was sometimes good, sometimes bad, but I always use the mute button for awhile when I want to take a break. Part of the reason the commentary may have been a little tainted is that this was the middle of the night, there were beers involved, and everyone was in a great mood. It's not like a tournament setting, so I give the commentators a little more latitude in this type of match.

OK, now I have to watch the Harriman - Schmidt match!

I have not seen nor own the Shane v Alex dvd, but saw much of it during the live steaming. The match was awesome.

As far as video quality, I have purchased a few of TAR's dvd's - half because of interest in the matches and half to support the cause. We need TAR!

I bought their 1st 2 dvds, which were round 1 of the Bar Table Ten Ball Open in Olathe, KS with one camera and no commentary and the one pocket match w/Corey & Dennis O which was a last minute deal w/no commentary, no sound at all and one camera. I just recently bought the US OPEN 1-hole Championship Finals between Tony Chohan & Gabe Owen plus the PPV to thank TAR for the live streaming at DCC. The video quality was great and although they tried to slip in a side view camera every once in a while, the one camera shot was enough for me. Well worth the money to see Tony "the offensive machine" Chohan play a very good all-around 1-pocket player in Gabe. And other than Chad getting to the booth a little late by himself, breathing way too hard , the commentary that Shawn Putnam and later on John Schmidt gave was terrific.

I highly suggest we all do our part to support these guys and what they are doing for pool. Just pick out what you enjoy watching or something you want to learn more about, and buy it. If you like nail biting action 9-ball for the cash, the Shane v Alex match will definately satisfy you. I saw it live and am still considering buying it even though I'm not much for watching 9-ball.

This is my commercial for TAR. I hope you don't mind my saying so, but they are important to the pool community. TAR is finally an organization that is delivering to US what we WANT to see in both live programming and dvds. And they are getting better and better at doing so. Let's not get in the way of their success, let's help them succeed...please.

Dave
(I have no affiliation with TAR or anyone involved in TAR, just an appreciative fan of what they offer)

Bad thread title = low visibility

Also wanted to follow up: When you've got perhaps 50 active threads every day and many hundreds per month, you really need to have a specific title to get the proper visibility.

"Your Review" as a thread title isn't going to attract much attention and will provide you much less feedback than "Your Review of Shane - Alex Match at Derby City", for example.

There's plenty of room in the title for a lot of specificity and I wish more people would take advantage of that.

$1,500 ?
Jeez, where the hell is Fatboy when you need him.

( someone shine the Fatboy logo in the night sky, for crying out loud ) :)

I actually like the fixed camera too! in fact, I Love it! maybe few angels, but just the way this DVD look is awesome... at least for me! because I'll tell you this; whenever I get to see a non-pool camera man (Which would be very obvious, you'd know it in a sec if that camera man never played pool before) it annoys me so much, he goes to weird angels and zoom into the Pocket + The ball only from a stupid direction, then show you the ball going into the pocket, haha. I'm sure most of you pool player would hate that too... That usually happens in the tournoments in china or japan, and maybe tournoments that is covered by espn or shownet....

anyways back to topic, great match. loved it.

a request from me to TAR. If it's possible in future match to get a legendry like johnny archer and earl strickland to commentator it, would be awesome.. I know archer have been in that position before.. but earl hasn't. but i think he's a funny guy and at this age with his experience i think he can do well in commentatoring a match.. ;) i dont know its just a suggestion tho hehe, would be new and cool

p.s. forgive my poor english all AZers.

Well, I'm still on Disc 1 (yes, there are THREE discs for 25 bucks I think) of the Alex/Shane match which I purchased from TAR......for pennies compared to the great action, commentary, and gameplay I've seen so far.

JUST on Disc 1 you will see as McCready called it "packages", unbelievable outs, safeties, kicks, Shane's MONSTER break, etc.

I can't wait to see what happens next.

You're missing out if you don't see this.

I haven't finished watching this match yet, but when I've heard Jeanette on ESPN, I've always thought she does a great job. Actually, she's probably my favorite commentator that I've heard on ESPN broadcasts.

Any time you get the Lion on film in a money game, its special. What you guys did is great by my standards. However I was not happy with the commentary as it was much about the commentators instead of the match. John was talking about himself, Jeannette was talking about herself, and god knows what Appleton was saying. At one point John asks who is ahead? I got the feeling they were more interested in talking about themselves instead of the game. Perhaps it was the late hour. But it might only be enjoyable for people who were in on the jokes or who knew the participants. Great for pool groupies.
Perhaps it would have been much better to have the "money" talk about the game. Like Ronnie Wiseman and Big Nasty. I would have liked to hear their prespective on their particular "horse" and how they should proceed.
I am still waiting for the Schmidt/Harriman one pocket match by the way.
