Cisero Murphy Vs Luther Lassiter 1966 - Windsor NY

I saw those a awhile ago, great stuff. I wish there was more footage like this from those days. What struck me was how confident Lassiter looked, he didn't appear like he was playing in a world championship event.

There are more videos out there like this hidden away, its amazing more of this has not surfaced but if someone with alittle money and knew the right people we might be able to get some of these lost treasures.

It would be great if some one came up with some of those lost treasures
and post them for us all to enjoy .

This is definitely one of the greatest matches ever. This is Luther Lassiter at his very best, both players are in the primes. I believe that Cisero's loss was payback for the year in before in Burbank where he defeated Wimpy in the finals. They were two great players that definitely had an exciting rivalry in (of all times in history) the mid 1960's. Thanks for posting this!

Glad you like the video Dave,do you know if this is a Gold Crown I shown in the video?

Lenny I am not an expert on tables, but because of the skirt and the ball leveling system, I would guess that this is a mid 1960's AMF table. I have better pics of the AMF tables if you want to do a comparison, although I could be completely wrong.

I do believe you could be right,I have seen many of the AMF tables that looked nearly identical to Gold Crowns,I believe the Crowns came first though and AMF copied it right?

Real quick here is the comparison - I would guess that they are the same tables.

Thanks for taking the time to show us this and I believe your right. Were the AMF tables designed after or before the Gold Crowns?

I would believe the AMF's were designed after. IMO, the GC was the standard of the billiards industry. Once the original was out on the market, everybody started making similar designs - sort of like the auto industry did with the Accord, Camry, Sentra, etc - the basic design became the standard for sedans industry-wide.

I do know that back then, some of the copy-cat tables were less expensive than the Brunswick GC. The GC was often imitated, never duplicated (IMO) although these tables played great. FWIW, some people offered a pretty penny for some of these AMF's a few years ago. The room closed for good not too long ago, these are the original tables from Playmore Billiards (formerly on Mesa Street, then on Montana Avenue in El Paso). Table #1 and #7 in these photos are snooker tables, and the others are 9 footers.

Wow

Thanks for posting this guys, that is just great to be able to see.

Cisero did get to 111 but the tape was edited so that we didn't get to see much of his game. I was looking forward to seeing that slip-stroke-hesitate-regrip stroke of his, the "cobra stroke". Guys would get hypnotized watching him regrip the butt mid-stroke (like a cobra could supposedly do) and before you knew it you were dead on the ground, robbed and beaten by the guy with that funky move.

Is it just me seeing what I expect to see or is Wimpy using a Balabushka?

Thanks again

Kevin

It's interesting how far up Lassiter's grip hand is on the cue. He is nowhere near 90 degrees at the point of contact with the cueball.
