I dont see it posted but It was announced at the Predator Tour yesterday, Scott Simonetti caught a really bad infection and is in the hospital. His left hand and part of his right leg have been amputated.

For those who dont know, Scott was one of the better NY area players maybe 15 years ago when he pretty much quit and became a policeman. He recently returned to the game and now this. He is short of 40-sucks!

I don't know the man...but that does suck the big one. And only 40 years old geeez. It just enforces that I should be very happy that I can still play a little at almost 70. Here's hoping for the best recovery possible for him. Johnnyt

Sometimes when my father would completely muff a shot in golf, he'd say " A lot of guys in Gate of Heaven Cemetery would have loved to have hit that shot today".

i think i just saw him play on a live stream from skyline billiards maybe. it was like a month ago. he looked like he had a pretty good stroke and could run some that's a shame.

I saw him no more than 3 weeks ago-he seemed fine but someone else told me he had been feeling crappy lately. It just doesnt seem right for a healthy 30 odd year old to lose a hand and foot/leg almost overnight in America as a result of a bacteria. I want to hear more about this germ and im sure i will.

OMG..
I know Scott for many years and have Gambled with him in the past..
He is a good guy, and a good player..
I wish him the best in his recovery.
Best,
Ken Kerner

If he's right handed player he can get a prosthetic left hand that can act as a mechanical bridge. IMO that'd be one hell of a steady bridge.

In my opinion, this isn't a matter to be joking around with. The only thing I can say is what the hell were you thinking when you wrote that? Good luck in your recovery Scott!!!

Some of these germs are really bad. I broke my leg in 1996 playing softball. Collision at 3rd. base, I was the runner. It was a compound (open) fracture slightly above the ankle.

I picked up a nasty anti-biotic resistant staph infection in the hospital. Fought that bug for 2 years before I lost my leg. Just when you thought it was gone it would be back.

Doctors are writing to many prescriptions for antibiotics and people do not follow the instructions for usage. Left over pills are flushed down the toilet where they enter the ecosystem. Antibiotics are not regulated in many places, such as Mexico, compounding the problem. The end result is nasty infections (bacteria) that are resistant to antibiotics.

Oh wow! That is horrible news.

Scott is definitely one of the stronger shortstops 'round here. He plays the regional tours often.

Keep us informed, Nostroke....

That is unbelievably awful. I've known Scott since his Chelsea days and saw him just a few weeks ago. I can't imagine something like this happening to anyone. I hope that he finds a way to cope with this and I hope that somehow his job will work something out with him. I think he's with the NJ State Police. Best wishes to you, Scott.

a friend of mine is an er nurse in ohio and she has told me about mersa or it might be mrsa or some other spelling or abbreviation. it is a wickedly evil infection a lot of athletes are suffering from right now. wrestlers, football players etc., any one who shares a common locker room or matt time. she was telling me to be careful when i change at the gym i work out in. these new strains of staff are brutal and i agree with you 100%. too many srcipts being written for nothing little problems is leading to these super infections.

i am not sure how to take that posters comments but there is a gentleman here in atlanta that shoots at the pool room in duluth that has a prosthetic left hand he uses to bridge. the hand is formed at the index, thumb and middle fingers to make a loop, much like doing the ok sign without extending the ring and pinkie fingers. he either bridges the cue through the loop or over the top if he wants to get a lot of follow or to jack up a little over a ball. i must say he can shoot fairly well and run a few balls but i am not sure how much consolation that would be to a player of mr. simonetti's caliber who has had this type of loss.

I've read of this MERSA (sp?) staph infection. It's very nasty stuff, spreads rapidly, often before anybody figures out what is happening.

Best wishes to Scott...

If i hear anything before it gets here i will but not likely, I just happened to hear it at the tourny. Use your Jersey network for us!

I just want to add my best wishes for Scott. I am absolutely stunned and saddened by this news. If someone knows Scott, please tell him that there are many people pulling for the best recovery possible.

Wow, this is horrible news. I've known Scott for quite some time, he's always been a respected player in the area - a fierce competitor. No words feel appropriate right now. This is so sad.

Scott has been and remains a valued member of our local pool community. Sad to see him dealt this tough blow, and wishing him the very best from this day forward.
