Ever had that loss that wanted you to take some time off? Well, I blow two eight ahead sets to a guy that I'm probably a ball favored. Maybe I've been playing too much? Not enough top players (playing guys and mostly giving up weight)? I don't know. I still will come on here and BS with everyone, but it's time to take a breath. I'm gonna hit the gym more and stop chasing action for a little while. Sorry, had to rant. Some losses I can deal with. This one...well put it this way. If he called me three hours away and wanted to play some, I'd have taken off work and headed his way. He came to me. I got beat. Time off time.

Definitely take a beak. You need to clear your head of this match and then come back more focused. Play golf for a few weeks and you will be ready to come back to the table.

Without defet you cant appreciate victory, instead of quiting for a while take a small break like a couple days practice and focus on everything you did wrong and only focus on playing that guy again. build some confidence and get back in there. we all have had bad beats and we always remember the losses. you just have to let it go, easier said then done ill admit but if i was you i would focus on beating that guy in another set just like that one and this time dont think your favored think that he is, and youll play even harder.

taking time off never makes you better in my opinion, it just makes an excuse for the next time you lose "i havent played in weeks".......

I wouldn't take a break. Everyone loses to inferior players, everyone.

Here's what the doctor ordered:

- Take off two days from work: Rest the first day and track him down the second day

- Change the game up some and fire another barrel or two

- Then, reassess.

But, that's just me ;) You're one of my favorite posters on here... get back into the fight and get that MF.

Just happened to me

Man did I want to quit pool two weeks ago. I lost two sets for a decent amount of coin hill/hill and I just couldn't get over it. I wanted to put all my cues up on the wanted for sale section and just f-- this game.

Then reality set in, and I said I know I am not going to quit, so I decided to takes two weeks off. Next thing you know I was in the pool hall the next day hitting balls. Crawfish it's passion and even though sometimes we don't play our best or even stink up the joint we just have to move on.

My decision was to right back into the fire and battle harder. Your decision my be to rest for a little bit, but just make sure you remember how much this stung and come out of it a better play. GL with the time off.

Take two weeks off, then quit!!!@@###. If I had a dime for every time I heard that...

Take a break, come back stronger when you feel like it. That's the great thing about pool, it's always there, more or less, when you are ready for it. There is always another shot, another game, another match. The game will be just fine without you for a few days, weeks, or months.

I am in the same situation with my league play, as in I can't stand it right now. Shooting a pool match at our local watering hole at 11:45 start time on a Tuesday night does not appeal to me.

That said, I had a blast shooting over at my buddies house just last night!

Pool is hard to predict. I play in a weekly 9 ball league, race to 9, no handicap, winner breaks, & Texas Express rules. I'm a AA player in this league and I only play other AA players and i've beaten every player in the league in my class and most of them have beaten me at times.

For example, I played one of the guys a race to 9 and I won 9 to 2 very easily. I played the same guy in our league tournament and he was running over me and it seemed like every thing I did went wrong. I was scratching on shots where the cue ball would bump a ball into another ball and then fall into the pocket giving my opponent ball in hand and that's usually a loss.

I can't figure it out how I can easily beat someone one night and then the next time I play the same player it's blood and guts to see who will win. I guess it's the way the balls break and the rolls your opponent and you get during the match.

I'm just the opposite

When I lose one I shouldn't have I can't wait to get back into the box. First part of a new strategy is to think about where this loss dinged you besides the pocketbook. Is your ego dented or your confidence damaged? Dented ego usually causes you to come roaring back, confidence damaged usually requires a little work first.

Could be you were set up. Oldest trick in the book is to tune for weeks to catch one opponent and then act like it is a spur of the moment thing. How badly did he want to beat you? Could be you took him a little too lightly and he tuned like hell to beat you.

You older guys need a little more rest than some of us younger guys.

Just get some quality rest and don't mess with Drater for at least a few weeks. :D

I've seen this guy play for years. It would be hard to find anyone that wouldn't pick me for the favorite in this one. Somebody forgot to tell him that, though. Nah, it doesn't sting that bad. I just know when it's time for priorities to switch a little. I have been playing six nights a week for a while. There's no money in it and I'd gotten complacent. I'm still the favorite playing him, and I'll eventually play again. Just gotta chill a little, first.

Correct me if I'm wrong but two sets of eight ahead means you lost sixteen more games than you won. That's a large margin of games to lose to someone you consider yourself a ball better than. You don't mention how long you played. If someone beat me by sixteen games over the course of say four hours he's four games an hour better than me,that's a lot. I might want to reevaluate my game or his game. Just something to think about.

If you had the worst day of your life and he had the best day of his, track him down before he's blows the dough you lent him!

yes I agree a set race to 7 or 9 is one thing, but the better player should win an ahead set.probably just a mental let down that snow balled.happens to all players.

Yeah Tom, but I've played a six ahead set with a guy and him never come to the table. I missed a couple I shouldn't have. He made some wild combos that I would never even shot at, and he missed quite a few with two or three on the table and CB goes three rails and hooks me. I know his game quite well. I just plain out dogged it.

I may not know much @ the ebb and flow of this crazy game, but I do know I would NOT want to be crawfish's next action.

"Ain't no let up in a man scorned" (sumthin like that anyway...)

Banger :D

Maybe this will help ya feel better amigo....less than a year ago, had my first 4 pack, not bad for a banger......in the last 4 weeks, I can't run more than 4 balls....

I like your idea of getting back in the gym....been doing that myself, and I look and feel much better....

Good luck....gettem next time...

I feel you brother! I was playing very good the other day winning easily and then got destroyed playing even against a player that I should maybe get a ball (or 2) from. I was ready to quit playing I was so frustrated. A few days off and a few good practice sessions and I will get back in the box to try him again!

OK Craw didn't expect to wake up and see this crap on the computer...it's all good if you are feeling a little whatever about getting cut up by a decent player. That's fine. Hell taking some time off to do some other things is also fine. What's not fine is to win $500 bucks and only get paid $300 and have 5 people swear they are gonna pay you tomorrow...wait sorry that's what happened to me last night. Son whenever you lose interest in the game, and you are a player, fall back and maybe do a little stakehorseing for a little while. Sometimes the best game available is one where you are not playing. When your head is right though...all action should get waited on.

I'm thinking the same thing Tom. I like the Crawdaddy but we all sometimes over rate our games. We like to think of our speed as how we play at our best. But our true speed is usually not quite that good. I've played some great pool at times (and beat some good players), but that just isn't my normal speed.

Just because you may have run 75 or 80 balls once or twice doesn't make you a 70 ball runner. Right?
I believe in results. If you are winning, you are the better player. If you are losing, you're not. K.I.S.S.

I played the One Pocket Ghost two weeks ago. Several guys told me I could beat him playing even. We played about 30 games (One Pocket) over the course of three days. He's three games ahead. HE'S THE BETTER PLAYER! Period!
