10 ball rules

10 ball must count on the break! It's preposterous to respot the 10 ball.:sorry:

Alright man, I answered your first question diligently about the 9 ball and calling it or lucking it in. Now I am starting to think you're just one of those types who likes to rattle cages...and if you decide your 75 post reputation is going to "RED" rep me....go for it. It won't do any good especially since I know I will get about 30 "GREEN" reps from other because of it.

So on to your statement. Have you ever broke the balls in a rack of 10 ball? The physics of the rack make the 10 ball travel more thus making it more prone to drop on the break....when playing at a high level nobody wants to lose to a lucky break.

The 8 ball league I play in isn't sanctioned so they play a slightly modified version of BCA. In our league the 8 ball counts on the break. Now granted there is a specific way to break in 8 ball where your odds increase to make it fall on the break but still games are better won by skill not luck. It sickens me since they have a spot on the league score sheets to recognize an 8 ball break and a break n run....but they only give rewards (stupid key chain or whatever they have laying around) for the the 8 ball break....come on break and runs are a true skill! :speechless:

IMO

If you pocket 10 ball on the break....it is a win.
If you foul on the break and pocket it, it's spotted
Some places play by the rules of the bottom two pockets don't count. So if the 10 goes in one of the bottom two pockets it gets spotted. Any other pocket it is a win. I see nothing wrong with playing those rules.

To the OP, if you don't like the rules of the tournament or gambling match you are in. DON'T PLAY IN IT THEN!!!!!! Simple as that.

Yeah, what's the big deal? And how many 10 balls are made on the break anyway? Very few.

I think someone averaged the 9 on the snap as 1 in 35 (or something) I don't know the stats on 10 ball but I know I make it at least every 1 outta 12....maybe more, luck is not a proud way to win a tournie!

Now that makes sense to me!

Strongly disagree. Spotting the 10 if made on the break is the lesser of two evils.

Rack your own. Spot the money balls made on the break. Best and most fair way to play. Less time arguing about the rack means more time for pool.

Not necessarily, there are different rules for different tournies. Just like 8 ball and 9 ball have any different variations. APA, BCA, TAP, UPA....etc etc!

Bullshiznitz!

What's really preposterous is giving a game credit for any shot executed that is absolutely, 110% LUCK even with "help" by the racker! It's B.S. all the way, whether it's 9-Ball, 10-Ball, or 8-Ball! All "break" wins should be kicked to the curb like a bad habit.

It's pretty rare for it to happen and as far as I know the only way it can be abused is if the two balls behind the 10 are a bit loose. So if the 10 goes at all and they're racked properly, it's sheer luck, another ball banked around the table and kicked it in.

I don't like the idea of luck determining the outcome of the match, but like 8 on the break it's pretty rare so I don't feel too cheated when I'm playing with rules where it's an instawin. If I drop a game out of every 30 or worse to that... I can live with it.

edit: tjlmbklr you'll have to show video proof of you getting the 10 in "1 out of every 12". There better be at least 50 breaks with four golden ones :) I might buy it if Joe Tucker says it's that common but he doesn't. Meanwhile the local kids at the pool hall can get the 9 moving towards the corner every time by intentionally pulling a ball off the rack a tiny bit. But I have not seen anyone who can replicate that feat with 10 ball even if they're aware of the important balls just behind the 10. From what I understand, the odds of a golden break at highest in 9 ball, 2nd highest in 10 ball, then 8 ball comes last.

Why is it people always want to win without doing any work ?

Oh yea, we're in america.

That's it in a nutshell. In many ways 9 ball/10 ball is a microcosm of the American way - Big noisy breaks, get something without earning it, big flashy powerstrokes, big reward gained from another's error (ball in hand).

Maybe we should do away with homeruns, hole in ones and hail marys. They really don't take that much work. Not compared to the other ways of winning.

Those things you mentioned require skill to some degree, you can't just grab some average Joe off the street with no experience in those fields and have them just do it. But someone who's never played pool before can conceivably make a 9 on the break because it's total luck.

There are some people in the world to thick headed to understand this.

Pool requires skill as well. Just because the 9 or 10 ball goes in lucky sometimes doesn't mean it shouldn't count. There is luck in all sports. It doesn't mean those plays shouldn't count is all I am saying.
