No, luckily it wasn't my case or cues...

I had inquired the fine folks at Jacoby about joint protectors for my cue awhile back. I was hoping they had some with a logo, or the script JACOBY like on the butt of my cue. They didn't make any, but had plain 5/16 x 14 ones available (black phenolic ones). I asked if it were possible to make a set with the same evgraving that was on the butt of my cue. I was told that they'd be able to do that for me. When they arrived they had the Jacoby "guy holding a cue" logo with JACOBY above and CUSTOMS below on the tops of both protectors. I was thrilled - TOO COOL!! More than I'd hoped for, and reasonable (price) to boot!!! Well, tonight at a local tournament in Pekin IL (Koch Street) they were pocketed by someone or grew legs and walked away themselves!!

I had them on the (sit down) table right next to where I was playing, (the last time I saw them) right next to my It's George lid, my keys, drink etc. along with my case with two assembled cues leaning on a chair less than a foot away from the other stuff. Had to have happened when I had my back turned talking to someone or went to the bathroom...??

I know I'm lucky that only the joint protectors were gone, but after the trouble Jacoby went thru to meet my request.....I just can't get over it!!! One thing's for certain, there's not another set of them out there (like mine), so if I run across them ....

Sorry for the long winded rant, but it only happened a couple of hours ago, and I'm still FUMING!!! Can't even sit a set of joint protectors where someone can see them.....Shouda been in the pocket of my case, or my pocket, or something, but I really never woulda thunk it. SHEESH!!!!!!!!!

That sucks Rusty. I am sorry to hear that. If it makes you feel any better. I left my quarter on the table after I got knocked out of the tourney today. j/k that was a bad joke. When ever we meet the first beer is on me.

thanks for understanding guys-

Brady, I asked Lenny if you were playing tonight (last night, whatever) on the stream, last I heard you were playing preacher Ron....hope you played well! I was having a decent night until the whole J/P thing!!

gwjackal - that's a very kind offer, unfortunately I hadn't snapped a pic of them yet (I was planning too, and planned to start a thread praising JACOBY for their great service once again). I recieved them on Friday afternoon too.....I'm so ticked!!

I was up on Ronn 5-2 and he snapped off 5 in a row to win 7-5. I played really well. he just played better. I had fun though.

Jude beat Lenny. Lenny had to give him the 8.

That is why I buy the lojack option for all my jP's. In the words of Vincent Vega: It would be worth him straling it just to catch him stealing it."

i saw a guy showing his cue to a local player here. he handed him the joint protectors separately. there were 4 total and when he handed him back to the guy he only handed him 3. the guy tried to pocket 1 of the shaft joint protectors. the cue had a 3/8-10 pin and the guy that tried to steal it doesn't own a cue with a 3/6-10 pin. how crazy is that?

I really feel you - the Jacobys made me one of the most beautiful cues I had ever seen and gave it to me as a gift at the BCA in 1995. I was so proud of that cue and was using the butt to show off how protective the Instroke cases are by sticking it in the case and turning it upside down and showing that the cue wouldn't come out by itself. So I was by myself in the booth and this guy comes up to me with a black 3x7 and asks me how much? Since I am assuming that people who don't introduce themselves as dealers are normal consumers I tell him $360 which was the retail price. He peels off $360 and I ask him to wait a moment while I write a receipt and he tells me it's not needed and walks away.

About 30 minutes later I am looking for the butt of the Jacoby to demonstrate the cases and it hits me cold that it was in that case. I was sick, utterly sick. I didn't even get to hit a ball with the cue.

The Jacobys got a call the next week from someone asking if they could make a set of matching shafts and they said sure send the cue in but the guy never did. Four years later in Pennsacola Florida a guy comes up to me and out of the blue he says "you had a Jacoby stolen from you at the trade show four years ago?" I said yes and he said he knew who did it and would tell me if I wanted to know. I dropped it and said it wasn't worth it to me to pursue it. In hindsight I wish I had asked for the name just to know who it was, not that this would have actually proved it.

So man I completely feel you on this one. What a bummer!

Sorry to hear that Rusty.... it's cold!

thanks - they were for the Jacoby I bought off of Mark (from Billiards on Main) that's linked in my sig. I stopped by there for a little bit to shoot around last Tues. (on the way home from the QC). maybe I'll catch you in there sometime to put a face with the name

Again for the locals....if these are spotted by anyone PM me. There will be a $REWARD$ for anyone that can get these back into my hands. Or, they can be turned in at Koch Street for a nice little surprise to me!! Thanks again.
