$1,280.00 added even if only two people show up

Yes, I would pay and play, but I'm not sure if I want to go to Louisiana 
So it's $1,280 guaranteed prize fund, no matter how many show up.
Would that be $1,280 plus all the $50 from each player collected?
Or, would it be $50 from each player collected and the remainder of the $1,280 will be covered? In other words, if only three players show up, the total prize fund would still be $1,280?
Sounds like a pretty fair deal.
Tournament jargon can be confusing. I remember it took me a few tournaments to discover what "guaranteed," "added," and "guaranteed added" meant. I like the fact that you put it out there up front, so that a person can see what they can look forward to. Good idea!

I'm not sure if I would play. The format sounds great, but with a $50 entry fee, and over $1000 added, there's a 100% chance that guys like: Gabe Owen, James Walden, Scott Frost, and a slew of others would be there to take that money.
"Open to anyone" tourneys have mixed benefits. You get a lot of great players in the same building, maybe even breed some action, but not many guys like me who play "just OK" aren't going to want to donate their money to go 2 and out.
On the other hand, it's hard to say if it's better than playing in a 32 player field w/ $10 entry, against the strongest local players, for a chance to win $90 if you take first...
I think I read somewhere once that it's VERY hard to make money playing pool.

Absolutely, I've played in a few similar tourneys for the same reason. One that stands out in my memory was a Midwest Open one pocket event, with a $60 entry, no green fees. (I think that one had $1500 added) I was promptly destroyed by 2 road players from Missouri and Texas. (3-1, 3-1)
Joey Gray won the tourney. But, Norman Hitchcock was there, and I learned a lot more from WATCHING his match than I did from playing the ones that I lost.
It was a great experience, but it also taught me that I needed to get much better before attempting to hang with guys who never missed...

I'm with you and Brady!!! As an example...I pay MUCH more than that to play in golf tourneys against local hack scratch golfers. You give me a chance to play match play against 2 of the top 50 on the moneylist on the PGA tour for that price, wow, you couldn't STOP me from playing in it!!! Let's say my first match is ME vs. Vijay Singh...LOSS, next I have to play Steve Stricker (since he was knocked into the 1 loss side by Sergio Garcia)...LOSS again. WORTH EVERY CENT.....
and the BONUS is, watching top players play each other in pool is a bit easier than following Tiger and Phil on a golf course

The tournament is going to be held in Metairie, LA, the suburbs of New Orleans at a pool room which houses only bar tables. It is called THE BIG EASY.
I'll be getting additional details to share with you shortly. The tournament is going to be in July but I haven't seen the flyer just yet.
And yes, the big guns are invited. It's a race to 7 on bar boxes so anything can happen and probably will. The only seeding that will be done is that in days before the tournament the usual Louisiana boys will be spreading a little corn around. :wink:
There is going to be a Caluctta as well. LA Tool Man: Come get you some.

Good question JAM! The $50 entry fee will also be paid back to the participants. So if 64 players show up, there will be $3200.00 in entry fees plus $1280.00 in Guaranteed Added Money for a total of $4480.00 PLUS THE CALCUTTA MONEY.
Oh, and while I have never been to this pool room, they reportedly have great food. One of the owners is a well known caterer in the Greater New Orleans area.
As soon as I see the flyer I will let you all know the dates. Grady Seasons has made an appearance in New Orleans a time or two. Maybe it would be a fun trip for the two of you. While I've had the privilege of meeting Keith McCready, it would be a special honor to meet you, Jennie.
A roundtrip ticket on AirTran.com from D.C. to New Orleans can be purchased as cheap as $250 but that is those Internet low fare specials.

Ditto, $70 is a cheap lesson to play with one of the best.....and just think if you caught your top gear and made it close....or maybe played lights out and found a way to win....legendary....$70 is cheap for that kind of experience....

you'd get stuck with me in the first round...we'd both not play well at all, you'd win, I'd get ticked and say, "ok bud, golf course, as soon as we're both out!" :thumbup:
