I can't tell, the table is "regulation" and the person I spoke with on the phone said it was the biggest table they had when they bought it.

Does this table look to be 8 or 9 foot to you ?

and does anyone know anything about the name brand "steepleton" ?

Thanks!

That looks like an 8 footer -

Here is a link to the Steepleton website -

Steepleton

IMO, that table looks similar to a Brunswick Bradford (pictured below)

I thought it looked like a 8 footer too but I really cant tell.

do you know anything about the quality of steepleton tables?

I have no knowledge except for what I just saw at their website - they are located in Louisville. They look like quality tables - but the site doesn't tell you what size the tables are.

Steepleton billiard tables are the standard by which all other are judged! ;) (from the website)

They do have some contact info, but I can't tell looking at the picture about the size.

If it's an 8 footer then the camera or the angle it was taken from kinda distorted the picture because it looks like a nine footer in length and like an 8 footer in width.

Regulation, regulation

I remember reading somewhere that a "regulation" pool table is one that is twice as long as it is wide. So, a 3.5' x 7', 4' x8' and 4.5' x 9' are ALL regulation pool tables. FWIW.

I played on one steepleton table and hated it. The rails played dead and hardly rebounded at all. It was a fairly new table, but that may have been a unique occurrence.

Just ask the guy to take a tape measure and measure playing area between the cushions, a 9 footer will be 50 x 100, an 8 footer will be 44 x 88.

Pic looks like an 8 footer to me.

thanks for the replys, Im pretty sure it's a 8 footer. No matter, the lady sold it while I was waffling on whether or not I wanted it because I couldnt figure out the size. I'd really like to hold out for a brunswick or diamond and Im pretty determined to get a 9 footer.

My wife and I are closing on our first house (YAY!!!) later this month and I specifically held out for a house that had space for a 9 foot pool table. (my only real stipulation while house hunting.)

Did the same! Had to settle for a x 4 x 8, though. Now, we're in an apartment that has a 25' x 35' rec room and even with all the rest of the stuff we have in it, it still has more room for my table than either of two houses did.

in the future on your hunt, ask the person selling the table, if you aren't able to go there, to measure rail nose to rail nose side to side. 44" for an 8' and 50" for a 9' footer. a 7' is supposed to 38", but i have seen 36" also. it was mentioned in an earlier post. honestly, i would try to stay with a proven brand table instead of 1 that is an import.

You'll be glad you held out for a room that you could fit a 9 footer in it. Will the room be enclosed as part of the house? I looked at many houses until I found what I wanted. I will post some pictures of my billiard room as soon as I get back from Vegas. It was featured in Billiards Digest a few years ago.
