What Wrap for this cue????

Guys

Chad is building me a couple of my very simple, classic, elegant, DREAM cues.

I have LOVED red over black cues for years, and that's the one I need your help and recommendations on.

I am really leaning towards linen.

I want white with small green spec Cortland, for that truly old-school look. But I’m having trouble finding it. Will it clash with the red veneers?

What about leather?

The top one is getting that real elephant wrap, so I don’t want black, but am open to suggestions. I was thinking maybe a tan / honey colored lizard print of some sort???

What other options would look hot?

i would stay on the black elephant wrap for the other one too, think it looks great.
and.. congrats for those 2 great looking cues, chad do great work again!

I would go with a black lizard print like these.

Or go with the real thing and contact Koinnkid here on AZ, he has great real lizard wraps in many colors. here is one of his black real lizards for example

me too... my next cue is going to be something like that ;)

i would go for a white base linen wrap. I prefer linen than leather for such classic cues...
 
White linen with green spec is what I was thinking. I have a hoppe style cue coming that is similar to the bottom one (same veneers), but it's amboyna into curly, and I went with redish brown lizard for that one.. But I think yours would look better with white/green linen.

Yeah, I want that old school look, where the linen fades to an almond color and the green isn't so pronounced. I am TRYING to find some old Cortland.

Yup, and the black leather has been done on the other one.

Looking for classic variety.

I recently got some red/black crocodile embossed from JD. I put it on a cue with red inlays, black points. It looks outstanding. Will post pics in a bit.

Joe Blackburn has something he calls 2nd generation Cortland. It is damn close to the original and it too is no longer made. I have it on a Schon R-8 and it is awesome. It feels much smoother than any of the new linen and has that unique light green color. It feels to me like the diameter of the linen is slightly smaller. It feels and looks great.

It is expensive but well worth it. I paid $125 for mine and would gladly do it again on a cue that needed linen.

That's why I am leaning linen on this one.

I have a cue in mind for a tan lizard, and I don't want a bunch of clones.

Headed to SRQ this weekend, will bring your DVD's and a case for you to examine.

And as soon as I get these cues, you'll get a test drive. :thumbup:

Very old-school.

Second choice: white with green Cortland. Someone told me where it can be found these days. Red and green are complimentary, and in a wrap it really doesnt shout 'green' as a solid green wrap would...

Third choice: black with red fleck.

Another thought: "Antique" from Prather. Essentially Ivory color. I just put it on my cue, and I really like the look...

I may check out Antique. That's the look I am after.

The black leather is out, the other cue is already getting elephant, and I have a 26 1/2 or whatever you call a 1940's titleist house cue, nearing completion and it's getting the uber old school smooth black, so I already have two getting black leather.

I have never been a fan of the colored specs in black, so that's enough DARK wraps for right now.

Aesthetically for ME, the focus of the cue is the points, that's why I've been drawn to Chad's work. I don't want the wrap (ala ringtail) to be the focus, but I do want the right compliment / detail.

I think Darkest I would consider would be the tan lizard, or antique linen.
