Just a funny-ish story really. I'm having a date night , just me and some of my cues that don't get out as often, out for dinner and pool. I'm pretty much minding my own business on a table in a corner when a small group of people , apparently league players , grab the table next to me.

There's a couple of girls in the mix and after a short while , it seems they have upper hand on the men in the group. From time to time , we exchange small talk. They notice my cues and seem impressed even tho I'm sure they no little about them but they do know they look pretty. :)

I hear the standard 'getting beat by girls' comments and such but like I said , I'm trying to keep to myself. Every so often they are nice enought to inform me of the beating they are putting on the guys , very sweet of them.

Alright so . . .

Finally one of them starts asking my about rating and league play. I say how I really don't have one and haven't played league in quite some time. I can tell she feels sad for me. ;) At this point I know whats coming. "Want to play a few games ? ". No , not really. I'm just knocking balls around, pretty much just chilling. "Don't worry , when I beat you , know one will know with us over here in the corner." Well that's a good point I think to myself as I chuckle. After a little more prodding I figure it will be faster to just play a few and be done then to have her get the point so I say alrught , just a few.

"Cool. I'll take the 7 out." She says.

????

Huh ? I'm like " Why should you get weight? Your the big league player , beating up on all the guys and all , I'm not even IN a league."

She says "Yeah , but I'm a girl."

I know... I will admit, I used to be one of those girls who asked for weight, because I was a girl... but that's how my friends - who had more experience and skill had used to match me up. And me being naive, thought that was a standard and for a while, it had me believe that girls can only get so good...

As for the girl who asked you for a weight, she could be down right trying to hustle you for easy money or just have been naive like I once was..

Well, I've grown since then and know better. I believe with or without the weight game should be matched equally as possible. And I am not ashamed to ask for weight form a 13 year old protégé of a kid either:)

Myself and others have said before on here to be careful of the girl/woman/lady that asks you to play. When the female asks the guy to play and wants to play for money...a big Red flag should go up. I know this is the 2000's and women ask guys out all the time now. Hell, Brooklyn girls asked guys out in the 1950's. They were way ahead of their time. But a girl asking a guy to play pool and knows what weight is, ...well just be careful. Johnnyt, never got hustled by a girl yet, but I can see it happening as I get older and my senile old mind thinks there hitting on me.:( Johnnyt

PS: I love watching a guy hustle a guy on a pool table. I've even been guilty of steering a few guy into the trap.

I definately considered that. I've been around long enough , I think , to be able to pick out a real road player. She didn't want to put up much cash and I didn't end up putting any in her pocket (even with the spot she asked for) althought I got the feeling she had more plans than game and quit before me.

Mostly I just thought it was funny to hear all the 'girl' smack talk and then she pulls the 'girl' card on the spot.

Maybe if I let her win she might have let me give her 'The 7' as well.

In the mid 80's I was playing some by myslelf and a bunch of girls came in the bar, they were playing on the bar boxes in the back, after a while one wandered into the front room and asked if I was playing anyone, we played some 8 ball and at one point she left the cue ball against the rail, she then took ball in hand, moved the cue ball forward and placed the butt of the cue against the rail and butted the cue ball against the butt of the cue, I was thinking to myself, "What the Hell" she then looked at me and said "Space".

I said Space? what? she said girls get to move the cue ball off the rail the width of the bottom of the cue stick.:o:p

Some of my friends (guys) tried to pull that 'space' crap on me a couple of times.
 
I'm sorry but just because you happen to be female doesnt mean you get weight. I wouldnt have given her anything there, she wanted the match not you, and she wouldnt leave you alone after you said no the first time. I dont know how much cash was involved but it sounds to me like she was trying to set you up.

It is you who ultimately decides whether to play a few games and give weight. Definitely a red flag when a gal askes for weight off the bat... I'd think twice unless I've been railbirding a few of her games.
 
They wanted to be treated as equals as individuals in the real world, yet they want the 7 and out right off the bat... haha
 
And butter too!!! LOL

I would have to eat alot of cheesecake before the weight is automatic!!!!:D
 
With all the responses I've seen here, it seems the guys are "afraid" of giving weight to the girls and losing a game or two.

In my opinion, weight is "automatic" for girls.
 
Weight being automatic, I would say no. In my mind, automatically giving weight would be an insult to them. If they were to ask for it, then that's different. Decide at that moment to give it or not. Most of the ladies I have shot with, who are regular pool players interested in improving their game, want to play even and they don't ask for weight, handicapped leagues excluded. I have been asked in the past to give them my best game; sure enough, they got what they asked for and they got respect in return for holding their own.
