hi, i am getting a new table and am wanting to get the pockets tight, am i right in saying the standard pockets are 4.5 inches on the corners and 5 inches for the sides? what size do the pro players tend to have their pockets?
The pocket sizes you mentioned are the standard for most all pool tournaments pro's play in today, if they're playing on Diamond tables

If your interested in having a table play tight, but fair, the corner pockets should be : 4' at the wooden opening (throat of the pocket) and 4.5" at the rubber end of the tits (table opening of the pocket).
ok i have bought my table but the corners are 4 and 7/8 inches, what is the best way to make them 4.5 or even a tad smaller than that?
The Diamond I shoot on has 4" pockets at the corners and they are cut to a 43, which I'm told is the tightest angle and pocket size ever. This table was special ordered and they installed the rails and cut them on the spot. This was ordered directly from diamond. It's not my table, but in a pool hall, believe that. Michaels in Fairfield Ohio I think Michaels told me he bought the first diamond tables ever sold
Mr. Cobra (may I call you Glen?),
How deep is the shelf on a Diamond Pro with 4-1/2 pockets?

I've never known Greg to support pocket sizes smaller than 4 1/2" and certainly not 4". I think someone is BS'ing you about this. I mean, after all...how could you special order a table that was not even built at the time and get the first one with 4" corner pockets...Diamond wasn't even building the tables themselves in the first 10 to 12 years to begin with, they were being built by someone else...per Greg's spec's

I spoke with Greg today, and just as I said, Greg has NEVER produced a 4" pocketed table, and never would, so like I said...someone is feeding you some BS
