Do yall think diffent ppl play diffent for money? for exp I've seen really good players play like god for $5 or $10 a game. but when big money comes up you crack like a egg. And ppl that can't make 3 balls in roll win every game for $100 a game. WHY is that? Never really did understand that.

Those types of players have a tipping point. For $5-10 dollars they try there hardest with no nervs and play well. When they get to $100 dollars they get to nervous, can't focus as much, and soon as they make 1 mistake its like a snowball effect, it keeps getting worse and worse for them.

Also with more money then their comfortable with they start thinking about that money all the time. If they screw up they might think in their head "**** that could of cost me $100 bucks!!!" and start putting big time pressure on themselfs.

nobody plays the same with pressure

Nobody in the world plays the same under pressure that they do without pressure. One of the oldest tricks in gambling is to take someone outside of their comfort zone. Get them to bet more than they are comfortable with or on a game that is a little outside their comfort zone and the spot changes quite a bit.

There is a catch though: As you note, some people perform poorly under pressure, some thrive under pressure. When you run into those people that always seem to find a way to win regardless of the odds honestly the best thing to do is to duck them if you can. Efren is a fine example especially the Efren of a few years ago. Efren occasionally went out of an event fairly early. However, once he had the prize in sight he was the favorite to win. The bigger the prize the more he was favored.

It is best to know if your opponent is the kind that responds well to pressure or poorly. One opponent you want to pour the heat on as early as possible. The other one you are better off to lull a little bit until it is time to make your own move.

Its called "choking".

Choking is when you play good and miss the easy shots. I'm talking about just starght up play like dog crap. Like Bob shaw jr I seen him play for $50 a game and brake every cue he had because he couldn't make a ball. and later that nite play for $4000 a game and never miss but the guy CAN NOT make more then 4 balls any time he plays. ????????? Thats just crazy if you ask me.

Well thats how I am I can't play unless i have a little pressure to make me play hard. Is that odd because ppl tell me all the time I need to drill but I can't make myself try .

set goals and keep records

Drills are often boring and it is also often hard to see results short term. If you can't make yourself do them start keeping records, even charting your results. Almost all goal oriented people will put pressure on themselves for performance to continually improve. If you are doing drills you can complete perfectly most of the time you need more challenging ones. I never count a shot really successful unless I make both sides of it, pocket the ball and get the shape I want. If you easily get six inch shape, cut it to four. If you get four inch shape cut it to three. You can make things as tough on yourself as you want to.

well my shape is great. I think. When I do drill like that I use a 3x3 peice of paper, and I'm on my mark 95% of the time and the other 5% i'm not but a inch or so off. I'm rusty right now this week was the frist time I hit a ball in while.

DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYBODY THAT COULD SHOW ME SOME DRILL OR SHIT MAY EVEN TEACH ME A LITTLE BIT. I mean I play good but I'm just so rusty Im' not sure i can get back where I was.

Back in November every wedesday night At a bar here in town they played name the price. But I don't know if they still play like that now I had to stop play. Because my wife had a new baby, and I stand home with her instead of out running the roads chasing games!

this thread brings up a funny story.

Years ago I made it to the finals of a tourney and was sitting talking to the guy I"m gonna play. He said...We're in the $$$ this is a good payout for a Tuesday night tourney (1st $700 2nd $300) I said yea, you don't play a race to 7 for $400 every day!

It took a minute, and his face changed. It went from yahoo I'm cashing, to DAMN!....I'm playing for $400:embarrassed2:

I didn't do it intentionally, but I SERIOUSLY sharked the poor guy. That set was mine before we racked. I realized what I did driving home.....kinda felt bad......for about 12 seconds!:D

Damn dude, we might be twins.

I think it evens out over time, just depends on how many barrells one has.

I've been like that befor. It seems like when your playing bad and have the cash to hang on you will come back. Unless the other player is just lucky then it don't mater how good or how hard you play you CAN NOT win.
