This is a fine post Tom. Your numbers will give the promoters something to look at. I was thinking about the one pocket event which is the only event that I plan to play and I would be GLAD to see 64 players in the one pocket event. You inspired me to figure out the payout for 64 players in the one pocket event.
I thought it would be nice to see the added money (as we think we know the payouts).
1st $4,000 + $21,000 = $25,000
2nd $2,560
3rd $1,920
4th $1,440
5th/6th $800 each ($1,600)
7th/8th $640 each ($1,280)
9th-12th $480 each ($1,920)
13th-16th $320 each ($1,280)
Lou, you might refer to the
7th Annual U.S. Open One Pocket Championship Payouts for comparison's sake. I think you cashed.
Granted, the Galveston tournament is ten years later and at a far more palatial location. Also, I think it was only a 3-4 day event to make fair comparisons.
Going from $25,000 (first place) to 2,560 (2nd place) is a pretty steep drop. I feel kind of bad for Efren so I will ask him if he wants to make a saver.

Do you think I should ask Bustamante, Strickland and Schmidt too?
Anyway, I still feel good about the promoters and think they will do what they said they would do and maybe more. We'll see.
If more players show up the pie will grow even larger. It would be great to see 128 players in each event but that is being very optimistic, imo.
I also think they said that the only people who would have to wait until SUNDAY September 20th are the FINALISTS in each event and that the tournament would be played down without a "slowdown" for the purpose of not making the also-ran players suffer unnecessary hotel expenses.
That Sunday will be a SUPER Sunday and I don't mind taking off a week to help these promoters achieve their goals. I figure that if we help the promoters by showing up, their future tournaments will only get better.
I would love to hear some facts by the promoters that sponsors from outside of the pool industry have already been recruited.
The new web site looks great with additions to come.
