All Those Dots Really Do Work

So after my cheap ass complained about the price of a Aramith Measel QB my wife finally just ordered it for me. I thought I would be distracted with all the red dots on it…but I’m not. What I found out was that I’m hitting the QB where I intend too and I’m getting the desired effect I’m trying for on each shot. I thought my stroke was bad but apparently it’s not that bad. All in all the ball showed me what I wanted to know and was money well spent by my wife.;)

It’s funny, before I started reading AZ Billiards I got along for 50+ years with a cue and a case. Since I’ve been on AZ I find myself just as bad as the rest of you having to have every new gadget and upgrade as soon as they come out. It use to make me laugh hearing players on AZ spending all kinds of money on these things. Now I’ve come to the conclusion that probably 1 in 10 really bring your game up a notch, and that’s good enough for me. A notch here and a notch there adds up in the long run. Johnnyt

I think the measles CB is a great learning tool. It WILL teach you how to use a proper amount of spin.

In years past, I would juice the livin' pi$$ out of the CB. One day I noticed how the CB of the better players in the area just looked different from mine. It's beause they used only enough juice to get where they wanted. No more, no less. Their shooting accuracy is therefore improved.

A trivial way to judge your use of spin is to watch your measles as the CB leaves the last rail...is it still spinning (excessive spin)...does it straight roll? (just right).

Go watch some Accustat videos...you'll see the CB action I'm talking about.

I saw that one and passed on it. When the wife buys, I get nothing but the best;). I remember my Dad always use to say, "It only cost a little more to go first class". He and my lived/live by that, me...not so much. Johnnyt

My mother use to say it is "not the thought of the gift, but the cost of the gift". She tried hard to buy the best gifts she could.

There is now a Inexpensive Alternate under $16.00.

All cue balls are not created equal. If price is your only concern, then yes, this may be the one for you. If weight and performance are your concern, you may wish to stay with Aramith.

I have a set of Aramith pro balls (Used at the US Open) with the blue circle cue ball. I weighed the aramith measle ball, and the blue circle. Less than one gram of difference.

Performance is pretty much the same as the original CB.

I played with a guy that had purchased a cheap knock off, and it played MUCH heavier. We weighed it, and it was about 8 grams heavier than the CB.

So.. Caveat Emptor...(let the buy beware)

I recently joined a league that uses it. I don't find it distracting when playing and it can help your game. But the ones I've played with are heavy and roll and roll and roll... Short follow position is a tough adjustment from other cueballs. I'm not sure if they're Aramith or knock-offs.

The measle balls does nothing for my game but it doesn't hurt me using it either. My biggest issue with it is that it shows others what I did/do on each shot.

Let them figure this stuff out during someone elses match. :)

I'm in the same boat with you. I find myself buying and selling more stuff since I started reading and posting in this forum. It's enjoyable to read other peoples opinions on new products and then trying some of them out myself.

I'm a big fan of the measles cue ball. It's my favorite cue ball of all and i've tried most of the balls on the market.

That's what I didn't like about it when it first came out. It forced me to reveal all of my secrect spins.

We have a few of them at Amsterdam Billiards (my usual room). I honestly do not give them a single thought whatsoever when I'm playing or watching. I think the novelty simply wore-off quickly for me, not a bad thing in my opinion. The changes are meant to improve the view of the spectator without detracting from the game. I think it's done just that.

What you did to the CB will be obvious to any decent player. If you're worried about a potential opponent picking up your "secrets", you need better opponents.

That's funny , I thought I had my own opinions. If I need yours , I'll ask.

(Swear I had that a$$ on 'ignore' . . . where'd that button go again? )

If your so worried about someone catching onto what your doing with the CB, during your match, then you need to work more on your game and worry less about thier's.........

Personally i could give a crap what someone does with the cb.... If i am that worried.... I'll ask them after the match about said shot, and if they give me a answer so be it, if they dont, oh well i will practice said shot.
