The only signed jerry franklin southwest

I was selling this cue for a friend of mine that lived in Dubai..Personally I never thought it was worth this much, but it was what he told me that he wanted for the cue..I guess he came to the States and sold the cue while he was here..He's usually in the Florida area...That is where his family is at..Lots of money
Are we talking about the bespeckled man from Dubai with the spanish last name and the first name similar to a famous mythical magician???? :D

Your wrong....he wasnt a mythical magician, he was a contortionist:p

Maybe if i read the link ......................

I just looked at the link provided by RackmZackm and read the letter from SW cues. The letter was addressed to my good friend from Dubai, Merwyn Fernandes. Merwyn will not buy a cue unless it is worth a good amount of coin. He has no junk in his case for sure. He just bought an original Gus that's gorgeous. I also know the new owner that posted the current thread and he is well known locally and is very trustworthy. Good luck with the sale Sean.

it seems in this case he may have been wrong. a Franklin era with rings has value for sure but the "extras " in this case don't

Hello all how much does someone think this cue is worth. Its a merry widdow southwest with two ring works one at the joint and the other at the butt. It is the only one of its kind to be signed by jerry franklin himself it says killer on the cue. Some of u no the cue. I just recently picked it up and was curious on what u think the price is on it. It also has about 8 shafts. Sorry no pics at the time but will post later when i get my camera fixed

I have to say that this original post was very misleading. Upon reading, I understood it to read that Jerry had hand signed his name to the cue. It was disappointing to learn it had only been engraved, with a random word at that.

The cue will only have special appeal to someone who's nickname has been established as "killer". It's not like it says cool cat, Ginky or toasti (well known players' knicknames.

Sure the additional shafts add some value, but only for someone looking for some "spares". It's not like they areall identical where a player can swap them out at will but still maintain consistency of play/feel/hit.

For the right buyer, named killer, with the curiousity to sample different hits, maybe $3k. Everyone else, not named killer, and not octophrenic, much less.

I think this is a cool cue, even without the engraving and 7 extra shafts. The engraving of "Killer" takes something away from the cue, IMO. It would be interesting to know the original owner...was that his nickname, or was it a reference to the cue.

What is it worth? Whatever someone will pay. It is a documented, authenticated very early Franklin cue, so it has value, although I don't know how much that would be. Personally, I would figure the cue and 2 "original" shafts would certainly be worth $2k or so. Six spare shafts have to be worth $100 each or so, although if they are SW fitted shafts, they are probably thinner at the joint and would only fit another SW. If I bought the cue, I would probably sell most of the shafts to minimize my investment. I don't think the aftermarket shafts add much "sentimental" or collectible value to the package.

Have to keep in mind that the non matching LD shafts will only bring value to those that use them. I don't, so they'd be of no value to me. Ringwork doesn't quite match up either. Wrong color brown phenolic.

Then there's the matching SW shafts, & 2 of the 3 would be way too small for me. Which would mean I'd need 2 new shafts, & I'd deduct their cost from the cue.

The engraving means absolutely nothing to me. The fact that it's personalized to an unknown would reduce the value a bit more to me.

i don't think any of the comments were negative towards the owner in any way. Most of us know him/of him already.

The cue is what he asked about, and he was just given open feelings about it, like he asked for.

What negative comments.???????????

Marcus. In what part of my post did I imply that I thought there were any negative comments about my friend Sean?????:confused: Am I missing something here? I'm good friends with both Sean and Merwyn. I was merely giving my blessing. If there were any negative comments directed towards either of these stand-up individuals, I certainly wouldn't be very kind with my comments.

I would love to hit some balls with this cue. I bet it hits awesome. In my personal opinion the cue might be worth 1800 to 2000 bucks. In all reality the "killer" could be his P*&NIS. It is a cool cue though. I just sold a brand new merry widow for 1100 bucks a couple months ago with a letter from Laurie.

I also had over 1000 people look at the cue on EBAY not to mention on AZ. 1 person pulled the trigger at 1100 bucks. I think the market is terrible right now. It might be a different discussion a couple years ago.

I had no reason to take offense to your post. I was just confused as to how you could possibly think that I was responding to negative comments that weren't there to begin with.
Note: This post wasn't edited because I still have my sanity.:p

wow ur an intelligent person

It's a discussion. Why are you inserting a comment in the thread that HAS NOTHING to do with the cue or it's value to the market.

I followed the link provided and NOTICED that Laurie specifically states that the word "Killer" is an ENGRAVING done by Jerry. NOWHERE does it say that Jerry "signed" the cue.

So basically someone asked Jerry to personalize the cue for them. Big Deal - this DETRACTS from the desirability for me and others. Especially in light of the fact that it is sort of presented as if this is something special. OMG proof that Jerry Franklin actually touched the cue - bump the price to $8000.

As for the shafts comment it just strikes me as funny that SouthWests are legendary for their "hit" and yet here is one with many extra aftermarket shafts customized for the cue. This doesn't detract from the value IMO - it's just unusual.

So please practice what you preach and either add to the discussion with some opinion as to what you think the value of the cue OUGHT to be or keep your comments to yourself.

i just wanted to no what the value was on the cue thats all oh and hey jack ass its the only cue he has ever signed or engraved, real smart you are oh and the reason for the shafts the original owner had jerry make all of the safts except for two which i had searing make cause i like his shafts better. my personal opinion and flavor. next time somone asks for a opinion you dont have to act like a ass about it its that old saying if u dont have something nice to say dont say anything at all. GROW UP

Where's the forest? All I see are a bunch of trees................

Besides that it's not "signed" it's an engraving. I too thought it was a cue that was signed by Jerry with his name.

That's a lot of shafts for this cue, was someone searching for a "hit" that the original shafts didn't provide???

I saw a SW with his signature on the buttcap before. It's a basic 6 pointer.:grin-square:

I saw this cue in Searing's shop. I looked at this cue up close. LOL i thought someone had wrote "killer" with a sharpie marker on the buttcap. I never would have guessed that was an engraving in a million years.
