who makes a good sneaky pete??

Get with Poolfool1957, his sneakiest petes play really great, and a really good deal for the money. I belive he has one left on the wanted for sell section now.

A good one

"Little Al" Romero, former road player, at Hardtimes Billiards, Bellflower, CA, makes a good Sneaky Pete. Was my first cue.

Interesting post and after reading it there is a great deal of very subjective posts here. But, I have to add that when comparing Sneaky Pete's, you must consider the cues joint (Piloted or Flat Faced wood to wood), with Phenolic collars or without, or with a butt cap or without. Then lets not forget the Ferrule material used and the tip along with the shafts dimensions and taper.

All of the above will greatly effect what you perceive as a great playing and hitting cue from one you don't like. Now no one can tell you what is good or bad or even what cue you should buy, because what they like you may not like.

You also must consider that in almost all cases Sneaky Pete's are not entirely made by the cue maker, in fact very little is done by the cue maker at all. Currently only a very very small handful of cue makers make their own Blanks for Sneaky Pete's, most are Pre-made parts that encompass the cues entire butt. Then the cue maker will turn them to size, taper them, add a joint and a butt cap and install a pin. Some of these blanks are made here in the USA, however, just as many are made abroad and imported into the USA.

If I were you I would suspect you could get a very good Sneaky Pete for your money from any of the US Production Cue makers, because many of them do make their own blanks. If I were buying one I would consider McDermott ( Wood to Wood Flat faced joint), Joss (Piloted Joint), and Schmelke who will make either for you. You may also want to consider a Custom Sneaky, but I would not get carried away with the price, because there is only so much anyone can possible do to a Sneaky Pete, and inlays do not effect the cues play. Currently there are a number of used Custom Sneaky Pete's on the forum for sale, some seem pretty cheap compared to their purchase price.

I hope this helps you understand what you are buying, and good luck with your purchase whatever you choose.

The question is "Who does not make a good SP".

I just bought a "Sneaky Pete" and it is stamped on the cue, from Carlscues on EBay for $34 for student. It is full splice, straight and comes with a "moori-like" tip which aint bad. Shoots good.

Caveat Emptor.

On the other hand I shoot with a custom SP from Raven Cues, coco and curly, G-10 joint, pro taper with pink ivory inlay which came in at around $600.

So.....take your pick and shovel.

I wouldn't buy anything from that Carlscues guy ever again. I have to return a "phenolic" break shaft and will post about it after I've done so.

like others have said - lots to choose from. I like Diveney's butterfly sneakies (particularly those with the G10 pin). Jacoby makes them with just about ANY joint configuration (piloted 5/16x14, 3/8x10, radial, etc.), so they give you a wide range of options (plus, I recommend their cues to any and everyone).

SO many to choose from, good luck in your search. :D

i dig the look of diveney's cues! from what i've read you can't go wrong with one

what ya said makes a lot of sense. im pretty new to the whole cue purchasing market. I've played a lot of pool. currently just shoot with a lucasi and a mcdermott. haven't got around to any custom cues..maybe when i get more money rollin in and shoot with enough cues to know my preferences as well. thanks again for the help

I would have posted this if you hadn't. I understand they are a great deal for the money. I've pmed him about one with two shafts and couldn't beat the price he quoted me with a hammer!!
You could even order one, if he's taking orders now, and get a real nice choice of wood in the butt.

Well, I don't think he said anything about it being new or keeping the cost down. So with that in mind, I'll say this. The BEST hitting sneaky that I have ever hit with, (and I've hit with Scruggs, Josey, Bludworth, Drexler, Webb, Chuddy, etc...) is a Bill Schick. Unfortunately, he is not making those anymore, so you'll have to find a used one. Of the others I mentioned, Scruggs were the most consistant throughout all the sneaky's I've hit with. Bludworth had some that hit incredible, but some that were fell short of the mark. Josey, Webb, and Drexler (another one who no longer makes sneaky petes), all are great SP's.

Then again, you could always find a production sneaky pete and be just as happy.

Joss has a great line of SP that are not directly distributed also look for any of these.
