Byrnes Videos

I was wondering what peoples opinions are on the Byrnes pool instructional videos.

I have his video for beginners and it sucks. Watching this guy shoot is like watching how not to play pool. The new Mika Immonen DVD's are much more interesting.

I personally did not like them although there are some good nuggets of information in them. I think Tucker's and Mika's videos are full of much more useful information.

For some reason, I always get the impression that Byrne is talking down to me. It makes me sad as I am pretty fragile. :(

One is good, and one not so good, and I can't remember which is which. I've only seen the two. The better of the two I've recommended to beginners.
And, for what it's worth, I've never had the impression that Bob Byrne was talking down to me. The books are better, IMHO.

I personally love Byrnes Vol. 2. Though its a bit old school today I really like the way he used the boards in the demos. I probably watched it 50+ times back in the day.

I have all five of them and i love them. they are a bit old school but im an old school kinda guy. Some people just have that perfect teaching voice and delivery that will keep your attention. Reminds me of Carl Sagan from Cosmos

When I started playing again, a few years ago after a long layoff, someone recommended Volume 2 as a refresher. It contains a lot of good information. I skipped Volume 1 because I was told that it was very basic.

I believe that all of Robert Byrne's work is excellent.. the books and the videos. He knows his stuff and teaches it well. It's all vital information and is very useful.

Great info. Done professionally. I like them.

I have three Vols. I believe Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 and Vol. 5 (or is it 4) You want them? Pay me shipping and handling they are yours my friend. The only one really worth a damn is Vol. 4/5. It has a lot of different practice drills.

Agree completely. Joe Tuckers are very good also especially the drills and break videos.

They were the first videos I owned. Personally, I think the instruction in his books is much better.

According to Leonard Pinth-Garnell . . .

His stuff is pretty good . . . His Pool and Billiards Encyclopedia is chock full of good stuff. But, its easier to watch videos. The Kid Delicious and Hohlman stuff is real good too.

For when they were made, Byrne's videos are great. I used to have my college pool classes watch them, at the beginning of each semester. Considering the fact that Byrne NEVER played pool much (he was/is a 3-cushion afficionado), he did pretty well with the videos. There are better videos available these days...including Randyg's & mine (Play Better Pool series), as well as the BCA instructiional video, How To Play Pool Right...by Jerry Briesath.
