Has anyone every heard of Fast Larry Guninger ?

Stop saying that trick shot guys cant play.

Here I'll give you my example.

Did you see that guy Nick Varner try and do a trick shot he can't make a trick at all. He runs around telling people he can gets shows doing trick shots and it's just a con he can barely make a shot. He should just go back to pool where belongs and leave the tricks to folks that know how to shoot them...See not very cool is it.

Nick is a great trick shot artist that is why I used him as an example. He shows respect for all the parts of cue sports. I have never heard him put anyone down. He in fact watches my shows from time to time. I wish I had a list of all the pro's that have watched me shoot masse shots over the years. Here I'll try to recall some of them.

First one I remember was Nick Varner. This list is as I remember not in any order. Cliff Joyner, Gabe Owen, Roberto Gomez, Hillbilly, Mark Hadad, Mike Siegel (we got problems now he wont admit it but, he has watched me for hours and hours), Grady, Mike Davis, Danny Harriman, SVB, Jose Parica, Rodney Morris, Shawn Putnam, Pedro, Hugo Patino, Mike Massey, Tom Rossman, Ginger Wizard, Charlie Darling, Allen Hopkins, Marco Marquez, Larry Nevel, Scott Lewis, Bobby Wiemer, Ginki, Kieth Mcready...ect This is about 10% of the list and I have not included any of the female pro's.

The reason I put this list here is to say this next pargraph.
Pretty much everyone of those guys has to rack our next game...Not saying I am better in any way, just saying I have bested everyone but two on that list at one time or another..In one game or another. Some for fun, some for tourney, and even some of those guys for the cash. Thing is everyone of them would watch me shoot trick shots, and I would watch them play pool. This is a two way street called respect.

In order to be a true pro you must respect all games. Larry has no respect for Mosconi's game, he voiced this entirely to loud for me. He has no respect for any other pro. I know this cause I have spoke to him. He has no respect so he gets no respect.

John Shmidt does respect all games, his post may not of reflected it very well here in this thread. I know him a little, and I know he tries to show respect to others while he is at a pool table. Not everyone deserves respest as I tried to point out.

this is real simple,if i go around saying im one of the best trick shot artist then everyone can call b.s. because im not a great trick shot guy.

on the other hand ive seen many b player trick shot guys getting alot of press because they say things that arent true. like they are great players and are tour speed.gunninger is a prime example.

Stop saying that trick shot guys cant play.

I know you weren't referring to me, I never said that and I have the utmost respect for the trick shot people who I know can all play. I may have missed something in the thread but I'd be surprised if anyone actually has the nerve to say something like that.

Fact!

The most important fact about Fast Larry was left out - He is an APA 7!

Cool, I know who you are talking about, and I know exactly what you are saying. Maybe I am just a little defensive after all the times I have heard about trick shot guys that can't play. Just making sure you are not putting me in this catagory...

Larry is not a trick shot artist. He is a salesman, and the worst kind too. The kind that buys chinese goods, and sells them for a markup.

What i see is that there is maybe a few trick shot artists that can actually play pretty well. The majority seem to be b players that can put on a show and thats about it. I live in the same area as paul gerni and to be honest the guy acts like he is a pro and has a fairly big ego, but he can get played for sure and im no great player.

No, not you.

This is an on going thing in pool. I just wnated to post my point which is there is one of us at least that can play a little.

For once I'm entirely glad this thread is going off-topic. I'd much rather be discussing the differences between regular play and Trick shots with a true champion like Mr. Schmidt than deal with the misery and insanity the accompanies the unfortunate Mr. G(u)rindger (Sic) everywhere he goes online.

Yes, some people abuse the UPA system, which gives anyone with a pulse and $100 to burn the right to get tour points for nothing but showing up and use this to promote themselves beyond their actual abilities. For a real Pro it must chafe when you know many people won't understand the difference. But unless you are actually proposing to go out on the Trick Shot/College circuit yourself there's no actual competition.

However I think an example we may be forgetting is Mike Massey, a top class Pro in his day who decided to specialize in Artistic Pool/Trick Shots instead. And "specialize" is the key word here.

IMHO To be a top Pro at a cue sport you have to really focus and practice at your chosen field and train your brain and muscle memory to a very high degree. Once you do that, with very rare exceptions (Efren Reyes comes to mind), you will specialize your talents to the point where you cannot apply them at the same level to another cue sport. I also think there is a level to which some people simply have a natural talent for specific cuesports, or a talent fostered so young that the brain patterns are too ingrained to be changed later in life. This is evidenced by the failure of Pool players to break into the Snooker Pro circuit, despite the much higher prize funds available there that you think would draw them like moths to a flame.

In fact it can be derogatory to try. I was told once by a very good Straight Pool player that he never played 9 Ball because it would mess up his Straight Pool game. Of course Mr. Schmidt would have more experience in this. What do you feel about switching back and forth? Do you exclusively practice just one discipline in preparation for a big tournament? Have you ever noticed yourself playing "Straight Pool" shots in a 9 Ball game that you should have played differently? Or do you find no problems with this?

I like the way he throws his cue on the table after a successful trick shot. Now THAT'S style!!

Scott <<== has met the guy in person

Not his act. That was done first by Charlie Peterson. It was filmed probably about 25 years before Larry was even born.

Is this a joke Craig? Now you will get another 500 (make that 3000) emails from him talking about how you must have heard of him and are just trying to insult him with the question.

John this is no Joke, until I recieved the Email yesterday I had never heard of the guy.

Below is the Crap I recieved:

I do not know what your problem is with me, but if I have said something to make you mad, how about we just let it go with my apology to say I am sorry and let it ride. If you want to continue to take shots at me, that's OK, it does not matter to me any more. Any questions about me, just call, get the straight scoop, 770-381-6609.

I travel all over the country, and maybe we will run into each other some time, and allow me then to entend my hand in friend ship to you then. I am a big supporter of room opeators and military men, I do a lot of free shows on bases. I am from Missouri like you. We may have more in common, than you realize.

Best wishes,

Fast Larry

He probably has a form apology email that he mass emails to internet posters. About 99% of them are owed apologies from him - you're apparently one of the few exceptions.

Never heard of him.

I remember Fast Larry, he is a controversial character to say the least, he got kicked off all the pool forums and tried to start his own but it never really got off the ground.

can anyone else make his 13 rail or something like that. He claims he's the only one. Just wondering, John?

This year at the BCA Expo I was sitting at the Mezz Cues booth talking to Caroline Pao when some dude I had never seen before came up and started telling her his resume as a player/trick shot artist/entertainer blah blah blah. He made it sound like he was across between Efren, Massey and Mosconi.

He left her his card and when he left I looked at and saw that it said "Fast Larry". Only then did I realize that I had seen the unicorn of of the online pool world.

What a tool bag.

<-----would have paid lots to see E "contact" Slow Larry.
