Mobile report

Smorg is giving St Peter the 7!

Just got a phone call from JoeyA. He is traveling plush over in Mobile, staying at the Hilton with a rich friend or two. He said the tourney has a strong field, 94 players with no lack of shortstops in it.

I hate to bust my friend Joey but he is a little lazy. He is staying out of the hard work in the tournament and working the action tables. He played some Squirrel guy last night and found a few dollars. Joey said he managed to stay out of the rail betting when Scooter took New Orleans's own Ricky P for some serious coin last night so he is still nice and fat and his nose is open if anyone wants to play a little.

Rumor has it that Randy and Craig from New Orleans are the ones that took a major beating on the rail and maybe as backers for the three sets that Ricky lost to Scooter, all three going hill hill. They said no problem though, plenty more where that came from if anyone wants to come to New Orleans!

Hillbilly, John Morra, Hennessey, I think Stevie Moore, and the usual gulf coast gang are at Mobile and the side action is huge from the report I am getting. Those that ain't there should have been. Sounds like the joint is hopping. Wouldn't be surprised if most of the show doesn't move to White Diamond's in Lafayette Louisiana next weekend. Think I'll have to sneak over there myself.

It was a long phone conversation. I remember Joey saying something about Gulfport Doc but I don't remember what except that he and some other AZB'ers are there. David Parker chasing a little action too I believe.

Good Times!

Thanks for the "honorable mention", Hu. At Joey's age, he gets easily overwhelmed and confused.

Actually I played one-pocket getting 2 balls with Marshall "Tuscaloosa Squirrel" Carpenter on Sat. and Sunday both. I quit 5 games loser Sat. because my play had gone bye-bye. Sunday we played to a draw, and Marshall pulled up; but I felt as though I had "won".;)

Joey mostly warmed a chair all weekend. He sweated my match a little, but quickly lost interest. There was lots of action, but as you know, when there's so much going on, it's impossible to keep track.

The most surprising match to me was Sparky Ferrell (sp) giving Nick Vita 9-8 in a 6-ahead 1P match for 5 bags. Very few people on the planet could give Nick weight at one-hole. Suffice to say, Nick won.

Lil Sam Gilmer from Starkville, Miss. had a couple of nice match wins over Lil John, and also against some guy named Earl (not Strickland). To me, the silly ass barbox tournament is simply a way to get good players in the same room for action. I have no idea who was doing well in the tournament, and no one else did either!!

The calcutta was pale this year in comparison to years past. In contrast, I think the White Diamond calcutta is the big draw at Lafayette. We'll expect some action reports from you next weekend, Hu. Joey will be too busy acting like a contender.:D

Doc,

Sounds great. When the tournament is just the excuse for gamblers to gather things start getting interesting in a hurry. Danged if I know why but sometimes there are just as many people in one place and you can't get anyone to gamble, sometimes most the people are there just to gamble and will bat a few balls around in the tournament just because they told their wives they were going play in a tournament.

I don't own a laptop so I doubt I will be reporting from White Diamond's if I make it. I'll just be seeing what I can stir up. Too lazy to play in the tournaments myself, playing half the day and all of the night starts seeming like a real job.

Breakers Barbox Event

When I left at 3am this morning, Jamie Baraks was in the hot seat. Ryan McCreesh was set to play Arlo Watkins (sp) for the losers side final.

Jamie was playing super good, and is going to be hard to beat once much less twice.

Tournament updates

The tourney updates seem to be a slow go this morning, guess everyone was up late last night for the finals, JoeyA will most likely have a good report when he gets home and rested.

thanks everone for the updates you have given thus far!

I don't have as much road seasoning as many on here, but White Diamond is one of the most beautiful pool rooms I have ever seen.....ever.

I'm with you, I can't stand waiting for matches. I used to love tournaments, and then I realized I was spending 1 hour out of every 2 waiting for my next match, if not more.

I would rather match up with somebody, or even just practice....The money you win in a tourney usually isn't what a McDonald's employee makes in the same amount of hours....

Heard scooter lost 10k to lil jon so lil jon has a bankroll right now for those looking to gamble or to those he owes

So Lil Jon won the 2nd set? I left before it ended. If so he won more than 10k. The 1st set was for 10k if I'm not mistaken. LJ was givin Scooter and Tedder the last 2 in a race to 15. They played scotch doubles against him.

Scoot did beat Ricky and the 2nd set was pretty brutal for Ricky. Double hill he breaks and scratches leavin a combo for Scooter and the win.

Henny didn't play Nevel as mentioned earlier last night. Henn did play Cliff 1pkt though and Cliff won.

My pick to win the tourn yesterday before I left at 1 am was Jamie Baraks. He had just put a beatin on Abood and Arlo.

Scooter has been known to try my patience but I do find him amusing at times. On the flip side of that, I've always enjyed being around Lil Jon. I would imagine with Tedder being thrown into the mix, that had to be a very entertaining match. :p
