Hey guy's/gal's I was just sitting around working on my table a little bit, just taking my time, and enjoying the work. I picked up the new CLOTH that I got from dartman, before I could see his little marker sticker, I already knew what side was up.
Ok Let me reveal the question.
-Why and how does a so called professional table mechanic, or any pool player worth his salt, put "CLOTH" on upside down upon install at times?
There is a second part to this:
Especially if someone was installing say Simonis or the Velocity Pro, it says it on the receipt. Now "CLOTH" is normally known as having a woven pattern, usually a smooth finished texture or at least somewhat, the material will look "of quality". Simonis says this on their site.
-Simonis offered the first worsted cloth for billiards. Why worsted cloth? Worsted construction means that there are no short fibers that can release from the cloth to form "pills" or fuzz-balls that have to be removed from the playfield in order to allow the ball to roll straight.
-Simonis cloth is incredibly smooth WITHOUT FELT-LIKE fuzziness and Simonis does not wear like nappy woolen cloth which eventually develops tracks or grooves in the cloth, all the while shedding short fibers that constantly need to be removed. With Simonis, ball spin is consistent, and the roll stays straight and true on every shot.
Like anyone here I don't get how someone can install CLOTH upside down. Could it just be that its the word? Meaning most people i know educated in it and not educated, all mainly say "FELT" even when talking about CLOTH. Maybe innocent bystanders are just looking at the CLOTH thinking oh there's the "FELT" and mistaking the fuzzy backside as the playing side???
This still doesn't make sense to me fully for I could not see myself not thinking something was wrong when the top is all fuzzy and the underside is all nice, smooth and pretty? Most definately when I'm in a conversation with people I do try and correct them, explain it to them. Wouldn't want them to let someone or themselves do the wrong thing.
Then again some people just walk around all day starin at their feet all day.
