Craig i can't agree more. i was thinking "why does this keep happening" the last time i saw this thread and i guess you're right. it must be the I trader rating thing. after all the people that've started complaint threads why is it no one will leave an accurate I trader rating.

even though the i trader is usually good enough people should still search the names of people they're thinking of doing business with.

The problem is that Kevin knows how to work the forums rules to his advantage. People cannot search out Kevin Varney posts because most of the threads were locked. People accused the moderators of being friends with Kevin - there was no such "love-in" in existence. Kevin would bait some of the posters and responders into a name calling session, and the moderators would issue ban warnings and would lock the threads. The best way to let people know about Kevin and his business practices is to keep these posts up by not getting into name calling sessions, and allowing Kevin to get them locked. Eddie Wheat used to do the same thing.

I paid for a cue in DEC 07. He said if I paid that day in full he guaranteed he would have it to me by feb08. All the commotion started here a bit after I bought it. I figured what the hell i'll just wait till he catches up. Finally get in contact with him earlier this year and 3 times he gave me the "its almost ready looks amazing" lines. He finally sent me one saying that it would ship out monday and to check the gallery section, never said a word after that. 3 months after that I just asked for a refund.

It's just unbelievable that they still let him do business on here.

This sounds just like a cue business down in Florida. I ordered some stuff once from this guy and was told it would only be a couple weeks to get it. I think it was a full splice butt blank and a couple pins, pretty esay order. Months went by and I heard all the stories about family problems and people in the hospital until I said the hell with the order just send me my money back and he says " to be honest with you your order has been setting here for a while and someone forgot to send it ". I told him if it was not here in a week I was calling the Better Business Bureau and in a week I had it. The best thing is I continue to get emails from this place about deals going on.

I've never called for the banning of any member on any forum I've ever been a part of, but I believe Varney should definitely be shown the door. The way he runs his business and treats his "valued" customers is simply ridiculous, and I can't believe the moderators, or owner, of this forum allow him to continue to operate here with a clear conscience. What does he contribute to the board other than a constant state of strife? You have members in good standing, some of which are "Club Members" who contribute to the board monetarily, being given the run around and ripped off by this character. Truly, when will it end?

However, calling the moderators out in these posts are what get threads locked. It will end if these threads stay alive, without name calling and "lock-worthy" material being added to the posts. I am! I asked for a refund after I finally had enough BS. He was "not in the position to give refunds" so he said he would sell it for me. He finished the cue and sold it.

If you paid with a credit card you can contact your CC Company and file a claim. I just did it to Varney. I was in the same boat Paid $500 for a cue 1 1/2 months ago and no delivery. Then he writes and says OH ya theres a problem with it and I need to make another one. So I just opened a claim with paypal and my CC co. and it took about 2 weeks and my CC co has credited my CC acct.

someone was just banned in another thread just for "woofing" (for want of a better word) at someone. He used a derogatory tone, used a word or two you wouldn't want to hear used to your mother g/f or anyone you respected, but that was pretty much it, and got banned. Seems to me ripping folks off is worse than "woofin"

Craig, I think the funniest thing was his response to anyone that had anything negative to say about him/his work...

"Sir, how dare you take food off of my family's table..." - or something along those lines...

Kevin Varney is/was never a cuemaker. He was a cue assembler that prided himself on more than he will ever accomplish. The only time he has ever made a cue with points was when Prather was having a sale on short spliced forearms, then it became a "rare, high end Varney".

He's a worthless asshat - always has been, always will be. It's a shame more people didn't see it a long time ago like a number of us did....

Oh yeah, do I ever remember the Varney threads!! I avoided opening this one until today but finally had to verify for myself that he had done it again. SSDD!

I did understand the theory of the powers that be that AZB at least provided a contact point for him as long as he wasn't banned. That made sense for a one time thing or one group of incidents over a short period of time I suppose. However when a man has preyed on the forum members as long as Varney has I think he is long overdue a banning of the permanent variety. If there is one thing that seems certain, as long as people deal with Varney some are going to get taken over the hurdles. It seems to be no question of if, only when.

and if the site lets people do these things it soon becomes a place where no one wants to buy from anyone else as it is being condoned. you get to keep scamming and not get punished so why not continue.

this site has alot of power as many people make their living selling things. all that has to be done is tell them that if you dont follow through as a seller you dont get to list anything anymore. simple.

The simple answer is because Kevin Varney has not been (and will not ever be) banned from AZB.

Of course, one could argue that banning Kevin Varney would prevent his customers from being able to get in contact with him. But apparently, once you pay money to Kevin Varney, you also become unable to get in contact with him. So what is the benefit of keeping him around?

Allowing Kevin Varney to continue ripping people off, without any consequences, only encourages other scammers to come to AZB and do the same. And it only makes it harder for legitimate buyers and sellers to conduct business.

Partner, this is really a shame, but not unexpected at all. This has been happening for around two years to different AZ members, and I really hope this situation works out for you. I don't think Mr. Varney is bad person, but his business philosophy and customer service is very poor. First I am surprised that Kevin has not learned from prior situations not to request payment in full up front, and second I am surprised that people still allow him to put them in this position.

But this is the problem with the I-Trader rating system, if you look at his I-trader and I am sure you did it appears that he is a safe bet to do business with. The reason this has happened is because out of kindness he has not been given the poor rating he deserves or people did not post a rating at all.

I do not know why the forum has not put an end to this situation, his record is well know by the members who have been here for a few years, when is enough going to be enough. If I were I would contact the AzHousePro who owns this forum, he may be able to help you contact Mr. Varney.

Hu...Slightly off-topic, but I just read in the Detroit paper today...a guy COPIED concert tickets (for a sold out show), and then sold them to unwitting buyers, via craigslist. He sold over a hundred tickets @ $30 apiece. MANY people identified him to the police. By the time they got around to looking for him (at his house), he was found HANGED! The paper didn't say if it looked like foul play...or not (perhaps a bit extreme, but ya don't mess with the Zohan!). I guess maybe he pissed off the wrong person. Varney will run into something like this some day, if he keeps this up long enough! As they say, "They's some f*cked up folks out dere!" :grin:
