Wrap becoming wrapless

The best way would be to have the handle section removed and replaced.
Doing so will likely change the way the cue plays however.
Also, it won't be cheap, as it will have to be refinished as well.

I prefer wrapless cues, and if I found a cue I loved that had a wrap, I would put a stack leather wrap on it. It feels similar to wrapless once burnished, and looks really nice too. Just another option.:)

unwrap

Hi,

Re-taper the butt and change the dia by .052. or so. One problem is what does the handle wood look like for a finished product. You would also have to turn the shaft joint into the existing shaft taper.

Best thing to do with your money is to buy a new cue and give a custom cue maker an order.

There is one way i have heard of.. never tried it but it is used when a cue maker gets a cue with a deep wrap groove and has to add stock to the handle area you can get some thin veneer just plain no dye or color glue and wrap around the handle area building it up over the wrap groove so the added material is higher then the rest of the cue sand down to meet the reast of the cue and stain with say a darker dye to hide where you feather in the seam it should work well its worked good in building up areas of low wraps so i have been told you hardly see the seam when done right

I had a customer of mine walk over one night to show me one of his beater cues that had toyed around with and filled the groove in with veneer. It wasn't perfect but then he has no equipment and is missing 3 fingers, all things considered i was somewhat impressed with how well it came out. I haven't tried it Myself but I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to get decent results. I've seen older cues with decorative banding running parallel, and filled in between with solid veneer. Seems like I even saw a picture of one that was spiraled. I don't know how how they got the banding to bend like that though, unless they steamed them or soaked them, but that seems like it may make the banding come apart.

Bill Hagan used to use strips like these in his cues. He used them as deco=rings on the joint area and butt cap also. cut a shallow pocket around the cue and, some way, bent these around to fit in the groove. It made for a very intricate and complicated looking deco-ring but wasn't that difficult to achieve once you figured out how to bend the strips in that sharp of an arc without breaking the strip or having it come unglued.
