Tac strip update

if its a wood slate liner I use 6 small sheetrock screws, if its MDF then you use the nails that come on the strips, on the rails I just used longer staples.

and if its a Diamond I don't know why you couldn't just glue them to the sides of the slate, in fact I am going to try that next? thanks for asking

So you do use staples and glue!;) JK! I was just wondering if they have an adhesive backing or something

Before we just laughed at your picture's but if insist on people net picking them to death. Your at the right forum but I seam to remember you didnt like it before when people thought off your work and idea's. You thought everyone was calling you a hack and you were going to stop being a member on here.

Next you'll say blue cloth is heavier then green and 1 streaches more then the other. One burns faster then the other. Dont use a felt pen or majic marker to mark the slate it degrades the quality of the slate and we should use a crayon because wax seals and is not as toxic. Ceramic will replace slate. and postal tape 2" wide works perfect as a slate seam sealer that wont create a speed bump under Simmonis cloth unless its burgandy and its thinner. Slate from area 51 has the best playability but quite rare.

Craig

What kind of cloth?
And you can get a different stretch with Tour Blue vs. Green 860.

I disagree, the dye has everything to do with cloth wear. Maybe I will get that many points someday, doubt it.

You are completely right about this. My wife has a degree in fashion and knows a little about textiles. After complaining about how some colors of cloth wear faster than others, she explained to be that the acidity level of dyes differs from color to color. This explains why some colors wear faster. Also, for some colors of cloth, especially lighter colors, the natural wool must be bleached before dying. This bleaching process also has an effect on the strength and durability of the cloth.

You two characters crack me up.

Here's my take on the "glue only" vs. "tack strip" argument.

I would bet a month's paycheck that if you each started with a brand new Brunswick GC4 and each covered them with identical cloth, using your own "patented" methods, that 10 out of 10 professional players would say that both tables played excellently.

If we started at the same time....I'd be done first, and my table would play better...until the second one got done...because you could start playing on MY table first:D

well he will bet you, I'll even put on bandaids so they look the same. Almost the same as if someone could tell the difference between popsicle stick rail ext's and just a facing for backup. Nobody could tell and I got cash for that bet. Glen I just passed you on points. Were off to a nice weekend aren't we.

Has it been a week yet?

plus once my tac strips are on, next time you have no chance. Glen how long does it take you to recover a GC IV that has no issues and pulling out all the staples yourself. You can have a helper to flip the top on and off and thats it.

Where is that guy Mike?

and to quote a famous line--even if you beat me I am still the best. There is alot more to being rated as a good mech-tech than just the job itself.

since you made the statement, outline 3 simple tests to show that your table would play better. You can't just say it would and people could tell. You have have to have qualifiers for a std. For example: the cue ball would roll further because you stretched it more etc. We could use a ball ramp to check this. You can name the other two: ???

In fact why don't you outline all the parameters that can be distinguished and then there will be a std for comparisons. I think thats a good idea. Maybe I will get more rep. That will keep you busy for a while.

John, my point was that my table would play better before your table would, because you could start playing on my table before yours, because I'd be done before you:D As long as the cloth is installed tight on 2 identical tables, and the rails are covered correctly...both tables will play the same in the end:D

But if you want to compete at something, I'll tell you what...you name all the tables you can put your tack strips on...and I'll name all the ones you CAN'T, then you can name all the tables I CAN'T glue the cloth on the way I install cloth...deal?:D

As far as how long it takes me to install a bed cloth...hmmmm....9ft ProAm one piece slate....8 min 15 seconds is what Pat with Accustats recorded at the 2001 Derby City Classic on the TV table....start to finish:grin:

Thanks for more inspiration, as I thought about it I have an old tool I am going to try when I put the tac strips on just the slate. Actually I may have been wrong by putting it on the wood. If these work like I hope you can forget about 3 inch stretch.

Your right about being in your shadows:thumbup:

Like Herby told you the other night "John is still learning"

Why don't you try the aluminum tack strips, they have about 60 pins per foot about 1/8" long;)

Question for RKC...

Given that your "glue only" method renders the cloth unable to be re-used in the event of a subsequent move, do you give your customers the option of you using an alternate method to cover the table? If not, do you disclose that in the event of a subsequent move, they will also have to incur 250-300 dollars to replace the cloth?

In the event the customer lets me know that they'll be moving the table at a later date...I install the cloth down to the bottom edge of the backer boards and trim it off there, then yes...the cloth can be taken off and re-used:D
