JL VS. VV observations day 1

Imagine how boring football would be if the teams could take all the time they needed to come up with a plan. I believe one day the pool promoters will wake up and try to make the game more watchable.

Foofball has a huddle before each play and about 40 minutes of action in the 3 hours it's on. Johnnyt

There's betting in the middle and betting on the rail. Two different things.

Betting in the middle is the bet between the combatants including their backers. Side bets between non combatants is betting on the rail or side betting. Saying "in the middle" makes it clear how much money is at stake. It's a total of 49K in the middle. Anyone know what was on the rail?

Years ago, we'd say "on the lamp." People normally would get confused if someone would say, "they were playing for 20 large" without clarifying whether that was in the middle or 20 a piece, crazy stories then escalated. The next guy could say, yeah, it was 40k (thinking that the original person meant 20k a piece). Without clarifying, the next person migh say, "yeah I heard it was 40k a piece...." So, 20k in the middle could get blown to an 80k legend very quickly.

Backers in the middle normally have a pre-determined split of the winnings with their horse. If not, serious bad taste can follow. I assume that's pretty consistant across the world.

For rail betters, normally a jelly roll to the winner would be nice, but sometimes that doesn't happen. Internet betters for example aren't normally going to Paypal the winner some jelly. Maybe they should.

Nice post.

As far as internet-betters should paypal jelly to the players, I have to strongly disagree with you. Right now I am for example betting on Iceland - Norway in the World Championship Qualifier. Should I paypal to the Norwegian players if they do not lose? ;)

I think both played good considering the pressure situation. I enjoyed watching.

I do have to say that I was forced to go to big screen and lose a bit of picture quality because of the crudeness that was being displayed in the chat room. It seemed like the hammer was kept busy. Something needs to be done about this. I'm no prude but that was embarrassing.

ya know this was an action match up we all got to peek in on. i agree in tournament play the shot clock has a place to keep things on schedule, but the next time YOU are playing in an action matchup for $20000 how would you like it if a railbird insisted that you were being boring b/c you were taking too long? i didnt watch the whole thing but i did watch in large chunks and i didnt really see to much slow play.

williebettmore thanks for setting me straight.

I was referring to 99% of pool out there. Not this match. That's why I said pool promoters plural. Thanks.
