If tennis was pool...

And people like Federer, Aggasi, Sampras, Bjorg, ect... would never rise to become the stars they became and spur the interest in the sport.

Truth.

First prize in the biggest tournament would be less than Federer pays his stringer!

If Tennis was pool,,,,,, 1st place would pay 20k NOT 700k

If Pool was Tennis,,,,, ALOT OF guys would be living a good life, playing pool.

If pool was tennis everything would get far more professional and serious...
but there would be drawbacks.

Pool tables would most likely be in almost every sport gym, i.e. school. That's where thousands of serious kids would practice daily under supervision of coaches. Kid's parents would most likely pay only for coaches and equipment.

All pro tournaments would last at least a week, not 2 or 3 days. Players would not pay entry fee, just like they don't in pro tennis. Sponsors would cover prize money, not the players. Of course, with that comes a proper ranking system like ATP, so there wouldn't be any open events, sorry. Amateurs would simply never get the opportunity to play against the pro's, unless they get good enough to enter pro ranks. There wouldn't be any tourists at pro events.

When you watch tennis on TV you get the idea that all of those players have millions in their bank accounts. Well, some of them do. But most struggle. There are loads and loads of players who play very good, but aren't really good enough to make it on the ATP circuit, let alone top 100. They might qualify for ATP event here or there. You have to travel all over the world and cover huge expenses. It's a cruel sport. And let's not forget that it is very physical, so your junior and senior career time is very limited. By the age of 33 or so you're done, maybe earlier if you're injury prone.

If tennis was pool, more guys would watch just to see the females in those short little skirts!

Ah but the beauty of Tennis (and other major individual sports) is that a player can make good money as a house professional working as an instructor. You don't need to play on the tour. I knew a guy who was never able to break into the ATP but made a good living as a professional regardless.

So I guess in keeping with the thread, if Tennis were pool players would have other avenues of making a living if they weren't competitive enough on the main tour. It's a lot easier to devote your focus and attention to improving your game if you know there is a pot of gold (or at least silver) at the end of it.

If tennis was pool....

there would have been a high school team.......

.... and I would have NEVER made it to college!!

If Tennis was like pool, there would a big secondary market for custom rackets. Picture Serena Williams strutting out with a ivory inlaid ebony handled racket. Vintage unwarped wooden wilsons from the 1920's would command a premium, because they're ideal candidates for conversions.

If Tennis was like pool, there will be even more people who are convinced the road to getting better is paved by buying better and more expensive rackets, than taking lessons.

If tennis was pool, I'd buy stock in jump cues.....the net in the middle of the table is gonna bring a whole new facet to the game

Not to mention, gambling!

Each pro will have at least two rackets, one dedicated for serve shots, along with a playing racket. AZT (Tennis' version of AZB) will have loads of discussions on this. Consensus is single racket is fine for badminton serves, but not for tennis.

The all new ATA

If tennis were pool The APA would be the ATA and find a way to comlpetely make it where the good players would not stand a chance. For example: Say you were plaing Aggasi in his prime. If you came close to hitting a ball you would win the game, if you actually hit it match over. About as fair as a 5-2 race in APA against a 4 that can run racks. or a 65-31 race in nine ball APA.

If Tennis was like Pool most Players would act like
