What a difference good cloth makes. I had my Valley covered yesterday with Championship Tour Edition. The mechanic did a great job stretching the cloth just right I believe. At 3 pm. yesterday it was 48 percent humidity and it played way too fast. This morning I went out at 8 am to 98 % humidity. The table played great. Just now (2pm) I came in from an hour of playing in 45-55% humidity and it played just a bit fast, but nothing like yesterday at the same 50% humidity. I know it should relax a little more in the coming weeks and that should make it perfect for me.

The Velocity Pro I had on before was like playing on glass at anything below 60%. I don't know if it had been stretched too tight or just not good for outside use. At above 78% humidity you had to jump over the wrinkles in it.

Now the Ridgeback rails come from Glen (therealcobra) tomorrow. In case you never heard of them they are special rails designed by Glen for Valley BB's and other BB type tables. They are suppose to improve the rail problems on the bar boxes and if Glen put his name on them I'm sure they will. I wonder if they'll help me find that SVB 10-ball break? Johnnyt

There's only person I know that talks more about humidity than you - Earl! ;)
I just hadn't experienced the drastic changes you have, so it's difficult to grasp how impacting a 50 degree swing can be.

Hey... Why would you change the cloth and THEN have Glenn come change out your rails? Seems like extra work?

And what are the "bar box rail problems" you plan on fixing?

Thanks for sharing all you new discoveries as you learn the finer aspects of this game. We all went thru it when we transitioned from novice players.

BTW, I'll be in Tampa the first weekend in Nov. I'll wear a delivery guy shirt in case you wanna hustle me some Pool. :wink:

Rails are coming UPS. I'll put on. I just can't lift the 550 # slate to do the cloth myself. Well I could but wife would kill me. Can't get my friends to help as the wife and I have an agreement. I don't bring any of my gangster friends (her words not mine) and she won't have any of her rich snobs over. Johnnyt

Yeah I've been transitioning from novice to player now for 55 years. I'll get the hang of it yet. Johnnyt
 
Now that you have new cloth and can feel the difference get a set of premium balls such as the Centennials or Super Aramith Pros if you don't already have them. I see that you have Aramith Pros and don't know if they are the same as the Super Pros. A friend of mine was using the cheap balls that came with his table. His son bought him a new set of "better" balls and he was amazed at the difference. I just laughed and said that is what I have been telling you for years. He use to think that balls were balls until then.

It doesn't stop there. After you have the balls, cloth and rails you will now need to start testing cues. Welcome to the world of addiction. As stated in another post you are now discovering the finer aspects in pool.

Don't be surprised if you end up paying more for a cue than you did for your table.

I've had no so good luck with Championship cloth (no humidity here :) ). But I did just have Simonis 860 installed, man does that make a difference. I used Centennials and I am no looking back. It's a bit too easy to get spoiled now :)

LOL. Yes they are the pro balls. I have 4 playing cues, 3 jump cues, 1 B&J cue, and a regular 2-piece break cue. Also a Delta-13 rack and just about every gadget for tip maintance. Have no idea how I ever got along with just one cue for 50+ years:rolleyes:. I think for awhile I was trying to buy a stroke and found out they don't sell them, so I found the one I lost 10 years ago. Johnnyt

I would get the Simonis if my table was inside. I like to try and support companies that support pool, but being the table is out in the weather I can't see spending that kind of money every 8-12 months on new cloth. I can't believe Simonis is that much better than the the Tour Edition, if it is it can't be much better. Johnnyt

IMO Championship Tour Edition is the best cloth out there. Its fast and stays fast for long time, unlike Simonis 860.

I pay attention the humidity too. Its amazing to see the cloth cloth speed change and the ball cling change. I notice a big difference in the cue tip with humidity changes too. And don't forget the chalk........ humidity is huuuuge when it comes to pool playing conditions.

I think most of us go thru that. Look in the for sale section. Everyone is looking for that magic cue.

If you have a scale weigh the balls. I have a set of Super Pros. They all weigh 168 grams except for the 11 ball which weighs 167. The Aramith Blue Logo ball that came with it weighs 164 grams??? The Measle ball weighs 168. The measle ball is the only one that I have that weighs the same. All of the others that I have weigh either 161 or 163 except the heavy BB that weighs 187.

That's quite a plug for Championship Tour cloth! I have been an S-860 man since, well since I was a man! At my start in pooldom (1970) the cloths were nowhere near as slick as what you can buy today. My first table was a "Minnesota Fats Pacer" 8ft. It was real nappy. And I do remember shooting on Simonis 860 for the first time. It seemed like I was shooting on linolium!

When it gets humid in my basement, it seems to me that the rails on the Brunswick slow down more than the cloth does. I like it best when it's as cold as a mother-in-laws kiss outside because that's when my table seems to be happiest.

I'm going to make it a point to shoot some on the Championship Tour whenever I can ever shoot again. I'll ask around in the mean time as to who has that particular cloth on their table around my parts.

As a parting, I'd like to put a plug in for the Centennial balls. They are far and away my favorite brand.

I second that. Centennials are the nuts. I used the aramith super pros at home for over a year then got the centennials. They play much better and look better to boot.
