OK.. I have to preface this by saying, I think I probably have seen more Palmer model 20's than almost anyone, not named Rubino. I would say we have sold around 6-10 and I have seen a whole lot more. I have been working a deal for 8-9 years waiting for these cues to become available. The wait, well as you can see was worth it.

The ebony cue, has some play on the shafts, but the owner was meticulous. The cue is right on the money. Inlays are clean, wrap is perfect. I have never seen one where I didn't have to replace a cracked ring, these are perfect, not a crack, the finish is perfect, outside of normal wear and tear. For a 30-35 year old cue, it's a 10.

Note the flourette inlays in the forearm and the 3/4" short pearlecent butt cap.

Now for the topping... :)

I have seen one Supreme made out of rosewood, a few out of macassar ebony, but I have never seen one out of padauk. Top it off, it's figured padauk with great chatoyance. Best of all it has FOUR shafts, two unplayed.

Now you get the picture.. they are perfect cues and I would say museum quality if there ever were two Palmers that deserved that award.

Christ, Joe.....got to be the motherload of all Palmers, let alone Supremes, and not to mention "matched pairs" !! :thumbup: Glad to hear the wait worked out. Those shafts are AMAZING.

One other item I noticed is the rings at the joint are all silver rings, and my pics and reference have black phenolic or fiber rings in that area. I would say these are two very unique 20's...

Top of the line, super rare, perfect Palmers,that are MONSTERS in every way. If anybody thinks different, they just don't know anything about classic wood.

They are indeed perfect.. the best two I have seen. I am amazed at how good the wraps are and it makes sense that it's rumored Gus did the high end stuff for Palmer because these are perfect.

Classic Palmers

I love classic cues.
After seeing this pair I'm going to quit my job and travel around the country looking for Palmers.

First off WOW!!!!!!!!!!! That is the jackpot!!!! Those cues are fantastic, I love them. I have never put a Palmer in my collection, I was close once. I'm kinda familar with model 20's, I have awalys like the look of them.


Whats the market price of a normal Model 20?, not in this condition but normal, your cues are so perfect/rare its not possible to price them IMO. Assuming they if they were in 80%-90% condition what are they worth???


Funny story about a cue I was chasing for 15 or 16 years like you worked this deal for years(i will be brief I dont want to go off base here, but its like your story)

I was in Best Biliards, Rich Landberg's(?) store in Orange County Ca back in 91 or 92, I was looking for a cue to play with and had some $$$. It was going to be the day I bought my frst custom cue by a big time cue maker. I was looking over 100+ cues, some guy walks in and buys the Gus I was hesatant to buy but was going to buy(I was just nervious about the $$$), he grabbed it right out of the cues I had narrowed down too, and left in 5 minutes. I didnt know who he was, 2 nights later i saw him in Hollywood, Said "nice cue", Everytime I saw him(once or twice a year) I asked him if he wanted to sell. in 06 I asked again, he said "Ok". I chased that Gus for 15 years-patients pays off in cue collecting. Of course the cue cost about 4 or 5 times more. I snoozed and lossed a few $$$. :)


I didnt mean to hi-jack your thread but The story is like yours(It pays to wait) and I thought was fun to share and you might enjoy it,

Those are really nice. What I like the most about Palmer's is all the variations - I get e-mails from many Palmer owners and I am always amazed to see the many twists and turns on their theme.

Those shafts are as good as gold. Look at how perfectly uniform the work is. The wraps definitely look like Gus wraps to me. They sent out to him all their original leather wraps from the late 1960's on. He liked that thicker, textured leather.

The ebony in the one Model 20 is Gabon, but it shows interesting grain coloration in the shaft and butt sleeve. I think this gives character to the cue, in addition to the custom floral inlays.

The Padauk is 3D - love it. I'll see if Peter remembers these cues and e-mail you if I have any info.

You can check Tate's sight for his value's, the BB doesn't have a 20 shown. So you kind of have to juggle the numbers.

No problem on the hi-jacking, it's great to hear stories about the chase..

I will be obtaining a picture of these two cues right after they were received. The gentleman was an amateur photographer, and the picture and these cues are exactly the same. These cues are 100% all original, and in fantastic shape.

The padauk is really a cue I cannot express how nice it is. You know me, I sell, sell, sell.. but this cue has me rethinking that position... it's really a cue that unless someone pulls an amboyna model 20 out of their closet, IMHO, it's the supreme, supreme. Or we can just nickname it Diana Ross..

The condition alone on these cues are really lights out... I'll have them at Marcus' room tomorrow, I am sure he'll give his opinion...

I second that. The padauk is amazing! And even more amazing is that it has four shafts! Of course, the gabon ebony is amazing also! :)

the chase storys are fun, and I dont think I ever told it here, I have a few more, perhaps we should do a thread about the great chases in our collecting fever we all seem to have, I bet Chris has lots of them with his collection of Palmers.

I didnt mean to get nosy or off topic about the price I was just stunned to see them, and while I do know a fair bit about cues, I know VERY little about Palmers. At some point I am going to learn about them, I said that in 93 when I knew a Palmer collector. So someday I'm going to study my palmer history.

Thanks for answereing my post, and congrats on the cues-they are just great like Blu hog rider said "Notched Diamonas are great" they and peacocks are my 2 favorite inlays. I perfer the style of notched diamonds on these cues.
