"resin dud"

Maybe he wants to use this when he doesn't have rules the say what tip he can and can't use. I don't have such rules here so I use my G10 tip.
I'll be moving to the US near Chesapeake, VA in December, so I will have to change it then. Just to make others so happy, maybe I'll just apply a paper thin layer of leather over my G10 tip, so only leather hits the ball.

I've been using "milk dud" tips on my playing cue for some years now. With the ban on phenolic tips i've decided to make a "resin dud" tip for my break cue. I'll soak the tip in fiberglass resin before pressing. Anybody else ever try this?

I think the viscosity of resin may not allow saturation before it starts to go off ie harden.
However if it does the tip is going to crack, sooner or later. My guess is real soon.

The liquid super glue didn't soak in, only sat on top of the tip, maybe it soaked in just a little. I think something like toluene, acetone, or paint thinner with some sort of resin might work if you soaked the tip for a few days.

just put a little super glue around the tip and burnish it, i did this for over 10 years with elkmasters and they held up like mooris, and the bonus was it polished to a high shine. Works wonderfully no soaking or anything, works like a charm. Keeps the sides sturdy and still gets the intended english. Not to mention its fast and easy.

Don't tell em that-I thot it was an old school secret-not for breaking anyway.

Why don't you just live by the rules? From the BCA leagues rulebook:

d. The cue tip must be composed of leather, fibrous, or pliable material. The cue tip on break cues must be made of leather with no non-leather materials added to the contacting surface.

When they tan leather they use a variety of chemicals to process it.

This resin is not added to the surface rsther it sounds like it is a processing agent trying to make the tip harder and will be homogenoeous throughout the tip.

They made the no G10 rule so people do not damage the cue ball and I doubt a resin based super leather tip will damage a cue ball.

Next thing you know they will have a max Brunell number for tips.

I like the idea of experimenting and coming out with something new.

I'll be thinning the resin mixture down to almost a water consistency. I'm also going to heat the tip in the oven to help "open the pores" a bit. I'll be testing this on my friends break cue because all I have is 13mm tips and my break cue is 14mm. will be putting it on tuesday and trying it out wednesday, i'll keep everyone updated.

that won't pass the bca rules.....

Soaking the tip in fiberglass resin won't pass the rules either.

I've soaked triangles in resin, and it works so-so until it cracks.

I guess I can face off a 16th inch glue on a layer or two on top then shape it

instead of drilling a hole all the way through the tip stop while there is still leather so it will just be a hollowed out tip with the g10 inside of it.

MAKE SURE TO ROUND THE EDGES OF THE G10. IF LEFT SHARP, AND THE LEATHER THIN, IT WILL CUT THROUGH QUICKLY.

I may have to join a league just to stir the poop. This very clearly states that the people chalking break tips are a bunch of cheaters!!

The rule only states about the contacting surface. It says nothing about what the inside of the tip can be made of.
