What do players want?

What would players like to see? Fewer events, with larger money added? Or more events with less money added.

Team DMIRO can not compete with the other tours out there, and there are obviosuly limited dates. Therefore, next season we are considering only doing 5K + added tournaments. I have 5 confirmed 5K+ added tourmanets for next year, and considering doing 8-10. Or I know for a fact we can get 15-20 2K added events. But what do you want?

I would like to get the players opinions. Also we are doing a diffrent format for next year.

We started too late and took too long on making decisions. So... Just want your inputs!

Also I am going to post more polls about rules changes for next year, look for those around December January.

I need to get the schedule going for next year now, so that we can be asured that we have plenty of time to advertise, ALSO so we don't have any further schedule conflicts!!!

Like American labor, we want more! More money and more tournaments. It didn't seem fair to vote concerning a tournament series I will never play in but I'd favor fewer tournaments with more added money just so I could cherry pick your tournaments and have more time for cherry picking other tournaments too.

The question is do you want to cater to people like me or are you trying to build a loyal following for your tour or series? More smaller tournaments builds a loyal player base. For me it is simple, put all of your eggs in one basket, put every dime you can into one event a year and I'll take all I can from that event and forget you exist the rest of the year. I'm only interested in what I can get out of events and don't care about you or your rooms that are trying to build business.

its not that we dont care but once you have more money added im sure the entries will be higher which means youll end up with less players keepit the way it is , its also harder cause the stops are so far from each other make it a nj pa da va ct tour and im sure you will get more players

With your format you need more added money and less tournaments. The ONLY problem with the DMIRO events is the lack of "pro" participation. What brings out the pros??? MONEY!

There appears to be more pool tournaments than ever before. It also seems that the Calcuttas bring in more players than the tournaments that only sport the tournament winnings.

If you want large numbers of players, you cater to the amateurs out there. If you want the best players in the country to travel, you have to make it attractive to them a well. It just depends upon who your target audience is. The better players will play when the tournament is in their town but they're not going to travel and spend a few hundred dollars to win several hundred. They can stay in their town and grind out a few hundred dollars and not have to risk anything.

Anyway, for me, I like more added money and fewer tournaments. It seems like there are TOO many tournaments right now for me to choose to attend. :duck: I think lots of choices is better than fewer choices but like some others have said, each person is going to be out for themselves.

New Orleans has few Regional Tournaments and seldom ever gets a National Tournament although it does happen from decade to decade.

I have been thinking about choosing tournaments by putting those tournaments that I have never been to, at the top of my short list.
I realize that I can't go to all of them and there are few that I actually have a chance of winning, so I have to make careful choices about where and when I attend different tournaments.

So far me, I vote less tournaments with more added money, paying deeper. Paying deeper probably appeals to the masses a lot more but you will have people more vocal who prefer the bigger payday for the few but shallower payouts depth wise.

I think the masses are quiet for the most part. :wink:

I live in arizona and we only have one tour, Desert Classic Tour, which is great, we would love to see a tour like this go around the country and hit other cities, kinda like the Mcdermott All American Tour. The northeast has so many tours and oppurtunites for there players to grow it makes me sick. Let me rattle them off for you incase you forgot.

I apologize if this seems like an attack on you its not, and I know we are only talking about this tour not all of the others. Its just hard for me to sympathize with players from the northeast that complain about tour not staying in their area.
i am absolutely sure there are forum members on here from other parts of the country that agree with me, especially Alabama, Cali, Oklahoma, just to name a few. Also this is probably why the poll is getting more votes for more tournies, because we want this tour to travel and come to our states.

I have called COUNTLESSSSSSSS rooms in those areas and NONE want to do tourmanets. They want their mom and pops, apa leagues in their rooms, and could care less about players that care about the sport, and players who are tournament level players.

I think the decision is made, we need to go with more money added, on a Nationwide level, that will bring the big guns out. AND I will make it cheap for the amatures to play so they come out and play too...

Understood. Maybe you should do one big tournie in each REGION of the US. One in Atlanta for the Southeast, Newyork for NorthEast, Texas or Ok for the Midwest, ect. That would be cool!

What pool players want

1. 5-10k added tournaments
2. Entry fee of say $125.00 (if on bar box charge a green fee vs qts)
3. More of them (ie 2 a month)
4. NO HANDICAPPING you put your cue together and play, period!
5. Race to 11 (9 minimum)
6. Start on time
7. Hotel info
8. Tournament directors who know what they are doing.
9. Advertise event at least 3 months prior so plans can be made.
10. Dress code and that includes Jeans, Collared shirt, Tennis shoes but be CLEAN and NOT FULL OF HOLES and then ENFORCE IT. PS PULL YOUR DAMN PANTS UP!!!!!!
11. Try to get local news coverage and if you know your not articulate enough to do an interview get someone who is.
Just some ideas I prefer, sorry for a bit of soap box but if pool is to go anywhere changes have to occur to fix the perception.

This is actually one of the things he said that I agree MOST with, as long as he keeps the entry fee reasonable for amateur's. I know not everyone looks at it like I do, but if I can get in for less than $100 and have the chance to play one of the big boys Im in! Its far less than it would cost me to get them on the table playing sets, and well worth the experience and memories.

The biggest problem I have is getting a tournament like this close enough to where I live. If he would have one in Indianapolis it would be great

I hope to go to the DCC again next year, do I have a chance to cash? Probably not, but I get a few days of watching great players and if I get a lucky draw I could actually play John, Efren, Cory, well you get the idea.

At least you have the DCC close. That trip is 2300 miles from Sacramento CA. All we have is Reno BAR Box tournaments. The Big boys don't usually come around for that like they use to.

There are some Great tournaments in Vegas.

There isn't any allure for the Big Guns here on the west coast to play in a little tour tournament like DMIRO.

The rooms that do hold tournaments here draw well and are affordable for all players. And we don't have to pay anyone from the East coast to run them.

I think he slammed pool room owners who don't want to put up money to have him put on a tournament at their pool room.'

Some people like to play against the Big Guns and others prefer their own kind. I like any kind of competition even the pea shooters. :grin:

Personally, I would say more events in more places would draw a larger number of "players" as long as you choose locations wisely. The bottom line is most can't afford to travel to events, but will participate in local events. JMO

hi mike. looks like you got some tuff decisions to make. what about another option in the poll? devide the country into regions. have a number of smaller events with cash prizes and qualifying entrys for some in to a regional bigger event. then maybe a national event for a year end final with the top players considered for special treatment. with both ameture and pro status being considered all the way through.

most likely easier said than done but just some friendly feedback.

also is there and would it be better to have seperate calcuttas for ametures and pro's?
