Favoritism in pool tournaments

I just want to say something to all of you who have been participating in this bull****! How do you people go to bed at night and look at yourselves in the mirror knowing you receive all this favoritism? I am not quite sure whether to name people at least at this time unless someone gets me pissed, but when I play in these tournaments I visualize these certain players wearing nothing but a large pair of diapers!

You guys should be ashamed of yourselves!

I play on the tri-state tour. "Tried" playing yesterday. Who are you? Who are you mad at?

There are certainly the people who go to every tristate and get in meaningless point battles. I remember last year, there was a guy who won 'player of the year' from point, but went 2 & out in nearly ever stop. Dont think he cashed in one event, but was player of the year... Just something for the weekend warriors to make them feel good I guess. But some play weekly and play well.

But sure, there are players that are not well liked. I can think of one in particular that I cant stand... (self proclaimed professional/lispy voice/a*shole to everyone) You figure it out.

But the TD doesnt sway any calls based on like or dont like. Or plays a lot vs. doesnt play a lot. The draw is at random and the rules are the same for everyone.

If you dont like the tour, dont play on it. I bet they wont miss you. A lot of the players are underrated, especially the B+ players. A lot dont get bumped to an A because it would lose business. Most stops are B/C/D. If you dont like the handicaps, I would say play on the Predator tour or Blaze tour.

Favoritism? ... Imagine, if you will you have the top women players and they are seeded. ...
I don't see seeding as favoritism. Presumably all of the players are subject to the same rules to get seeded. It does make it harder for a new player to break into the top ranks. There are two benefits of seeding: the final four or eight are more likely to be the best players, and those who are in the top ranks have a chance to not lose too much money playing on the tour.

The OP seemed to be saying that someone cheats on the reported scores:
lets just say it has to do with not reporting the correct match score results to the websites that report the matches in order to suppress their ratings in order to have a better chance to win.

I would not describe that as favoritism either; I would describe it as fraud.

b-boy, try using the quote figure so at least we know who you're calling an a**wipe.

hes not man enough to say his name, the name of who he is mad at or who he thinks is an ass****.

Hes clearly a nut, which leads me to think I know exactly who he is. The tristate tour has its share of nut jobs, but only one of them played yesterday.

Geez.... your post is similar to going to a buffet, as opposed to a restaurant. In a buffet, you get everything for yourself and in a normal restaurant, everything is brought to you.

I"ve seen some vague posts here, but yours is a rant with no content. On your 3rd post, you actually provided a clue to what the hell your rambling about. You don't necessarily have to name names, but at the bare minimum, you should give some sort of clue to what you would like discussion on. You seem to think people are going to go searching around the Internet, calling up people on the tour, taking polls and going thru papers, in order to get up to speed about what this post was even about.

Craziest post I've seen in awhile. Congrats for that!

Please Cleary, tell us who it is. lol

thats fine for you but most people refer to the nj,ny, ct area period. Obviously you didn't do a simple search'

no but i did do a search on people who cry about handicaps and it said you should play in the apa and not any tri-state events. and btw all of the complaining is embarassing to those of us with proud roots in that area so please stop. either be a man and name the names of those who you feel wronged you and give them a chance to respond or give it a rest. at least explain to the rest of us how this reporting to websites works. what website do they report scores to that can keep handicaps down? isn't it pretty much up to the td to determine handicaps? and last but not least i'll tell you what i tell everyone - including myself - when they lose, if you wanted to win you should have played better.

Bob -

Favoritism is to give someone an advantage.

Seeding players is a joke, IMO. The final 4 or 8 may or may not be the best players, but IT IS LIKELY they are the favored players.

I do agree that the "favored" seeded players are less likely to loose money on tour, hell I almost guarentee it.

Im not saying it is not the right thing to do (okay I am saying it is wrong) but dont say it isnt favoritism. Maybe thats how AF, won so many tourneyments, she got a few byes.

Favoritism in seeding does suck but that's not what was alleged here. the op flat out said there was cheating by way of artificially calculating handicaps with incorrect score reporting. and that is flat out wrong. if this is occurring we need to know who is doing the manipulating and if there is cheating the tour should be avoided like the plague and let it die. the last thing our game needs is another black eye. i have never played in a tournament where i didn't look at a bracket and think that some of the familliar faces seem to always get a better draw. but i don't mind that. it's up to me to play the player in front of me. but if a td is flat out giving people a pass by manipulating handicaps that's a line that shouldn't be crossed.

But if it IS happening, the tour is not to blame, its the people doing wrong. So far, he has not told us who he is or who is doing wrong. But if you havnt noticed, he is a little crazy to begin with... almost EARL like. So can you trust his crazy rants anyway?

I cant believe this thread isnt dead yet. he wines about the tourney but wont elaborate on who or why and expects us to search it out? This thread needs to die a quick and painfull death.

no no, don't do earl like that:grin: yeah i've noticed he's a little on tilt. but if he's being cheated i'd give him a little leeway. and the only reason i laid blame on the tour is, the type of cheating he is allegeing can only happen with the people running the show not repoting scores correctly. and again - it all sounds ridiculous at best.

Some people feel bad press is better than no press. To be completely ignored is the most frustrating feeling any one can have. Sorry but we are feeding this guys Ego by replying to his posts.

Earl isnt "a little" on tilt. Hes on full blown tilt.

But really, I pay on these events and I see nothing like this. Its clear to me that this guy just has the "world is against me" mentality.

On a serious note, I think most people who played in a handicapped system have seen people game the system to their benefit. The solution isn't to complain, the solution is to become a better player.

When it comes to favoritism, I find it appalling when the tournament director can choose players handicaps. I think that is what he might be referring to. I hate it and truly despise it when this happens. I played strong for a few weeks and they bumped my handicap up two games. It doesn't help that I won a couple tournaments back to back, but even still. There should be some kind of points system that should accrue to determine what level you should play on.

It's like loco yoco tournaments they have around here. The handicapped ones they make every female player a 2, and I play as an 11. WTF. Some play pretty strong. 2 PFFT

Do we even know if the Tri-State bases their rankings off of match scores? It might just be tournament wins per season.
