Sam Maloof sculpture for cue?

I've seen some crazy trade offers on here, so I thought I would have my go at one. I am offering a signed Sam Maloof sculpture that I won for receiving the Peoples Choice award at the 2007 AWFS FreshWood student design competition. While it certainly isn't a full piece of furniture, if you even have the slightest idea of who Sam Maloof is, you know the thing is going down as a piece of history. There are currently 5 of these in existence and since he recently passed, there will be no more. Here is a nice little article about Sam. I'd say the Smithsonian, White House, and The Metropolitan put him up there with about any cuemaker!

Also putting up a pic of Sam with same sculpture just so you all don't think I am BS'ing anyone!

I'm looking for a wrapless cue in the 19.5oz range, preferably with some nice ring work and and some gorgeous cocobolo or amboyna burl. Don't care to much for stainless joints. I'm not gonna be to picky (well a bit - customs only) so show me what you have.

And yes, that is my gorgeous mug in the photo! Don't forget the camera adds 100lbs (oops my finger twitched when I hit 0)!!

That's an interesting piece you have there and I'm very familiar with Mr. Maloof's work. Unfortunately, I prefer furniture. Now, if you were offering one of his rocking chairs, then I'd try to deal with you! :grin:

I'm guessing that this thing may actually be an arm. So at $20,000 for a rocking chair, that should at least get me a $1000 cue!!! :thud: Consider it an affordable way to have a piece of his work...

Seriously though, if I were you, I wouldn't part with that award knowing what it took for you to get it! I just googled the award and came across an article in Fine Woodworking Magazine that shows a picture of you next to the reproduction piece you made. I think that was one of Sam's rocking chairs behind you in that photo too. You have got some serious woodworking talent that I envy! I'm just trying to get started in it as something to do as a hobby/possible income down the road. Especially when I retire. Sure wish you lived closer to me.

By the way, are you by chance related to a Chuck Hedges from Milwaukee, WI?

I appreciate the kind words. I can tell you though that getting into furniture making is not the easiest way to make money. It used to piss me off to no end to hear people say that, but the reality is that with so many cheap ass Asian imports, very few people appreciate hand crafted american furniture. When you find someone who does, send cards on every holiday and memorize their damn birthdays!

As for the chair behind me - the kid who made itwent to College of the Redwoods (more of a Sam Krenov kinda place) and thought he was gods gift to furniture. Loved the looks on his and most of the other peoples faces when I got 1st place, Best of Show and, to me the most important, the peoples choice award. As for the sculpture - I have plenty of memories and pics and really don't need another piece of wood cluttering up my house!

I don't get it,you work with wood and you kind of dissed some C.M.s who charge more for their work then others.You of all people should know that there are big differences in how a cue is made,or if you don't you need to visit any of the top C.M.s.
I am not trying to start anything so don't take what I wrote the wrong way.

Nice work and congrats on the achievement. By the way that chick at the very bottom is kind of hot, even if her "chest of drawers" was lame. What is that sculpture supposed to be, it looks like one half of a boomerang, just curious.

This reminds me of the Raymond episode about the sculpture that was a little too suggestive of a certain part of the female.
