This is a review of the FingerSlides created and made by Nancy Cotes, business name Cue-Z and user name hllwnmagic here on AZB. Some effort needed to be sure who I was dealing with because she seems to have several imitators. She offers excellent pricing to AZB members and will custom tailor the FingerSlides to each individual's needs. I don't know if the others can offer this option.
I tried a glove a few weeks ago and had to admit it was an improvement over a bare hand with or without a little powder in the humidity of New Orleans. However there were a lot of things I didn't like about the gloves. The enclosed finger tips interfered with planting my fingers on the table and a lot of my hand was covered that didn't need to be just making for more sweat. The largest glove in the pool hall fit me poorly also so it always needed adjustment.
Enter the FingerSlides. I ordered large and extra large. With my fingers swollen from years of arthritis the large size is too small, at least new. The extra large size fit well when I was first using them but were loose the last time I tried them. Unsure if they stretched a little or my fingers were less swollen. A quick bump in the web between my thumb and fore finger now and then kept the slides in place and Nancy has already offered to make a custom size for me if needed.
On the table I like them. Definitely improved my game. The cue slides well even though my shaft is in poor shape right now due to my lathe being in storage for months and an unfortunate train wreck on a concrete floor I prefer to forget. I was able to tighten my bridge substantially, so much so that I had to make a few adjustments to my longer shots when using a lot of english. The major bonus were that the slides weren't intrusive like the glove, I easily forgot they were on my hand between shots.
The next test was to introduce them to a long term glove user who has worn gloves for years. His hands are a little smaller and he was able to use the size large FingerSlides. After using them a few minutes he declared he was buying them from me, he liked them better than a glove from his early testing. He was called away suddenly for a minor emergency later and was wearing the FingerSlides as he left the building, something I have never seen him do with a glove. Apparently he found the Slides less intrusive too.
Another plus is that the FingerSlides seem to be made of a much more durable material than the gloves and the glove wearer also described the material as slicker.
To sum up: The FingerSlides work for the intended purpose, the first question! They are less intrusive than a glove, seem more durable, and allow you to plant your fingertips without material between the fingertip and table cloth like a glove. Of course without fingertips the first place a glove usually wears out simply isn't an issue. Being able to interact directly with the maker to custom fit the FingerSlides to your hand if needed is huge too, poor fit was an issue with the glove I tried.
I will be taking advantage of Nancy's AZB discount and free shipping to order more of the FingerSlides. She offered to take back or adjust the ones I couldn't use but with the swelling making my fingers different sizes at different times I think I prefer to keep the ones I have and order more.
