I was just wondering what everyones idea of '' what it takes to be a champion '' was?
Could everyone give some experiences they have been going through as they are on thier way to being a true championship player.....

You have to play champions.

Then you have to learn enough from the beatings to be able to beat them.

You also need some G-d given talent.Practice, practice, practice and have nerves of steel.Plus a little bit of lady luck on occasion.

I have been told that layered tips and Blue Diamond chalk should get you most the way there:grin:.

I think natural talent is important.
A good coach can shave off years of trial and error.
Income enough so that you don't need a conventional job.
Competition (someone better than you that you just can't stand)
Not having a family at first would help to keep your mind on task.
Connections in the industry.
Hard work and a true love for the game.

I could go on but I am getting the urge to play:wink:.

I have been there and done that but maybe i was afraid of defeat atfer getting beat so badly for a few years....

Good Rule For Life

Pool is like any other field in life.

You have to test yourself against those who are better than you, and learn from it.

Take full responsibility for your actions. Understand what is really holding you back, and work on it. Blaming luck, bad rolls, etc. is only a way to avoid fixing real faults in your game.

From your avatar, it looks like you won 9-ball tourney that was big enough to give out a nice sized trophy. That tells me you have talent, heart, and the ability to win under pressure.

Whatever you want out of life, you have to sacrifice something to get it.

In pool, that sacrifice will be hours of practice, time & money spent travelling, and losses against better players.

Whether you learn enough from that sacrifice to become a champion is up to you.

Determination

Dedication

Devotion

Desire

Discipline

Dreams

Put yourself in the company of Champions...
Play with them as often as you can..
As long as you can...
As affordable as you can...

And don't be afraid to open your mouth and ask for help and advice...

Good luck to you...

I would say attention to detail... doing all the little things right and doing them right every time..

I would say that this pretty much hits the nail on the head.

Most people lose focus over time due to other priorities. In order to be a champion you have to stay focused on the ultimate goal of being a champion.
