Cristina De La Garza video interview

Well i know lots of women who regardless of their looks, good or bad, are NEVER EVER, going to play in a WPBA event.
This girl on the other hand, just got her exemption for next years tour.

So are you saying that making it unto the tour isn't in itself skillful enough?
Cause I'm sure you can find a lot of females that would consider that to be a major accomplishment in female pool.

As far as i know, go4pool is a NY based website.
So far, it's been the same brown couch in all the recent interviews.
Maybe, that's part of the reason that the people that get interviewed, either live there, close to there, or are just passing through (as in this particular video)

Believe me, i'm sure that if go4pool had the chance to interview ladies from around the country or from around the world, they would, but i don't think they are going to interview anyone who doesn't plop into their own lap unless it happens at some bigger function like S.B.Expo, for now anyways.

Regarding females, maybe it's safe to say that in the future, we can expect all the girls from Kiss Of Death to be interviewed, and other females from the area cause it's a website catering to the local scene.

I guess that's just a crime to some people.
\

sure kid, if you say so

NICE COMEBACK!
LOL. It's not like you're saying anything to prove me wrong.

It's not like you could either.:D

it's not a comeback. neither one of us is 13 and on a play ground and we're not telling yo mama jokes.

it's not my goal to talk bad about her or try to belittle her accomplishments. it's good that she's doing well for herself. i'm just saying there are more talented female players out there that deserve recognition because of how well they're performing

Let me get this straight....

You have an opportunity to interview a female National Amateur Champion who also just got an exemption to play in the WPBA, She's also involved in promoting the sport in every way possible. Never passes an opportunity to commentate on a live stream or do an interview for Inside Pool Magazine. She is sponsored by Poison Billiards and A-Tex Family Fun Center. Oh yeah......she'a also gorgeous, smart, single and has good credit. :D.

You believe that Jim should not do this interview because there are others that are more deserving??? LMAO. WHO???? That's what I want to know!!!

Go Cristina!! You're awesome and great for pool!

everyone road mary avina's jock pretty hard at first too.

i hope she goes far in this deal but this instant fan club stuff is strange to me

it was a good interview and everything seemed to be answered well. this is probably only showing how not "in the know" i am but who is chris de la garza and what sparked this interview?

i saw her on a few what's in the case videos but i never hear anything else about her.

Your first post in this thread is where you should have stopped. You're not all knowing and what little knowledge you do have is not the be all, end all on what is or isn't newsworthy in the pool world.

Back when IP had Borana on the cover, it was a slow time in the pool world tournament wise so they did a personal interest story. Pool has its off season and sometimes things are slow which is why the magazines combine two months together because there simply isn't enough to fill two magazines during that time frame. If IP had lied and made Borana out to be more than she is, then that would be one thing. As it was, they did a story on her story and I thought it was a nice story.

If you want to stand on a soap box about something like this, you need to take issue with someone who is genuinely sticking an attractive woman on the front of everything they can simply because she's attractive - Charlie Williams with Shanelle Lorraine. I'm pretty sure that as far as true game goes, both Cris and Borana are more than Shanelle could handle but Shanelle gets invited to CW's "world championship*".

Cris and Borana are playing in regional events and WPBA qualifiers and proving themselves as worthy up and coming pool players - the new fresh faces of pool that you said that you wanted to see. (Did you miss the part about Cris recently earning herself a spot on the WPBA with her genuine skills on the table?) Shanelle doesn't dare compete in the events they do because it will be blatantly obvious that CW is using her simply for her looks.

Cris didn't state that she was something she isn't, just like IP didn't state that Borana is something she isn't. Main Street Productions recently had a pic of CW and Shanelle on their site that stated "world champions Shanelle Loraine & Charlie Williams to be Featured in '9-Ball.' " I don't know if they got a lot of flack or what but they've since changed it to "The World Womens World 10-Ball Championship Qualifiers" and just below that they have a link to ShanelleLorraine.com. Not only is Shanelle not a world champion but she also isn't a qualifier winner - CW put her on the invite list. If you want to complain about pretty faces getting undeserved coverage, complain about the genuine undeserved coverage. Most here agree that Borana and Cris have done and are doing plenty to warrant some coverage. Their attractive looks are secondary to their dedication to pool.

Instang?

This isn't an INSTANT fan club poolplayer. Some of us have known Cris for years and know how hard she has worked. There is a difference between ths and the Mary Avina thing. A HUGE difference. If you can't see that then, well, I don't really have anything else to say about it.

Open your eyes please, there is nothing wrong with giving credit where credit is due AND deserved!

Peace,
Amanda

P.S. I mean no disrespect, just calling it like I see it is all. :)

Nothing "Instant" about Cristina. She has worked very hard for several years promoting pool and working on her game.

Most women would not work as hard to promote and would be discouraged by a few judgmental people. The ones that can handle it will become well known and maybe even famous.

Holy cow! You really, really shold have stopped at the first post and simply listened and learned. Comparing Mary in any way, shape, or form to Cris is about as stupid and insulting as it gets. You're not a very good judge of character or at reading people are you? This post almost leaves me speechless.

At what point have you ever seen Cris act enough like Mary to make you come close to thinking it was ok to lump them together? You saw the interview, her posts are all over the forum. The only person immature enough and self centered enough to act & post like Mary, is Mary. There has only been one female on this board since I've been around and before you came around to come close to Mary and thank goodness she isn't that bad anymore.

you guys are right!!! good on you

Imo

Why would anyone want to knock another persons time in the spot light! It doesn't matter what level of accomplishment someone achieved. I don't know Cristina personally but I have talked to her on occasion and she is a very good representative for the sport. Just because you have not accomplished your goals in life, don't knock someone else. We get too much negativity now, so any good press helps all of us!

Maybe you would like to watch Earl Stickland interviews.

if you're talking about me what i said has nothing to do with me or my goals.

See, this is my take on it.

I don't care how good Christina plays or not.
That is not what the video interview is about.

The video interview is about HER. Not about her game, not about how awesome she is or isn't at pool, but instead, it's simply a vehicle for people to get to know of her, to have a better understanding of who she is.

Now i will be the first to say that poolplayer2093 you are perfectly entitled to your opinion. But the fact of the matter is, regardless of what anyone thinks, it's not anyone's decision other then the website's owner, who gets interviewed.

I can understand if there was misrepresentation on someone's part, but there is nothing like that here. Nothing like that at all, and believe me, if there was, i would be the first one to cry foul.

As for the deserved recognition. WHO? And when did a private website, become obligated to have some sort of pecking order when choosing who they interview or not?
Seriously, who would you rather see interviewed? YOURSELF?

Instant fan club?
You know, i don't know CDLG from squat, and i can guarantee that she doesn't know me from a hole in the ground. But that doesn't stop the fact that the interview was great, and that she was a great interviewee.

Why people get all bent over something so relatively insignificant is beyond me.
When it comes to the limelight, regardless of what someone does you are always gonna have someone who is bent because they either want some acclaim for themselves, or for someone they know, because they feel those people are more entitled to it.

Got to love jealous people.

Cris has earned recognition

Cris has earned recognition by all of the things she has done. She is deeply involved in the pool world and plays a very respectable game. She was the one that gave us the first solid information that the Galveston folks were for real and had leased space at Moody Gardens for their event just as one example.

However there is another issue here too. If every interview and article just features a handful of people or the people playing at one level it becomes boring to the listeners and readers, just more of the same ol' same ol' insert a different name and different place. I like to see the occasional report on a talented youngster or someone along the ladder of success too. Some will make it to the top, some won't, but all are of interest. Heck, I think it could be a riot to go down and interview Bubba banging away at the local bar sometime. I don't want to see an interview with him every time I look but he plays pool too.

Jim wants me to thank Cristina for the interview. He got at least 500 hits on his website in one day. I guess, this is one of the best things he could have done to promote go4pool website. Win Win situation!!!

Interviews

Cristina's interview has brought a very high response to the website. I think that everyone in this business has their own reason to be in it. I have noticed that the journey is as important as the finish, with most of the players that I have interviewed. In Cristina's case, she has many interests that compliment her desire to do whatever she wants to do in the pool world. I found her to be extremely intelligent and very aware of what she was doing. She isn't just blindly chasing a dream, because she realizes the pitfalls of the business.

As far as the interviews, everyone doesn't have the talent or drive to become the top player that they would like to be, but there is no way that I can tell who will do it or not. Interviewing top players is really interesting but everyone knows what they have done from other venues. What I like to do is find out about their lives so you can make comparisons to your interests and your travels through the pool world. All of these people have interesting lives and I have just caught them at different stages in their game. Whether they make it through to the end of their dream is yet to be seen, but that is part of the interest. Just stay tuned.
