mark jarvis bank pool

approx. 8 to 10 years ago i heard through other pool players that jarvis said he would play anyone bank pool. i know he doesn't play much anymore. where does he fit among bank pool players when he's playing all the time. also how about all around bank 1p and 9 ball. i saw him play donnie anderson for 1000 at lexington and donnie won in a very close match. seems to me he plays all around a little under shannon d. in an all around.

Tony,
To put it in perspective, Gary used to give Jarvis 8-7 playing banks. It was a tough game but we had a little the best of it, when Jarvis wasn't stealing balls. I caught him once taking one of Gary's balls and said something about it. We almost came to blows (at the time, I wished we had. lol) when he told me to shut up that it wasn't my business. I was staking Gary and I didn't care who liked it, I wasn't going to stand by and watch him steal my money! That's not the worse of Jarvis' behavior but I'll keep that tidbit for personal conversation as not to hurt pool's image any more.

Good to see you posting, Tony! Hope all is well with you!

hi sherm, wasn't gary giving jarvis 8-7 every other game?

I believe they did play that way once, but Gary played Jarvis 3 or 4 times. Jarvis always wanted and needed 8-7. In actuallity I think Gary disliked Jarvis and really wanted to beat him. He may have outrun the nuts giving Jarvis 8-7 but he was confident he could win. That went a long way with Gary!

I believe

i always thought jarvis is a nice guy but from what i read here..

He's talking about a long time ago. I've known Mark for a long time, and lets just say, he's a little different guy today than 15 or 20 years ago. I can tell you, that if all Gary was giving up was 8-7, and the game was tough. There's your answer as to how good Mark played.

Maybe I shouldn't say anything else, but I believe he played Efren at DCC last year. They played even, 1 game bank, then 1 game of one pocket. I don't know for sure what the final outcome was, but I think Mark came out on top a little. He can still play a little bit.

Besides banks ,Mark is very good in 8 Ball also.

Jarvis and Gary Bank pool

Just for the record.... I asked gary in Indy to play even and he was so smart that he thought that if he gave me 8-7 I would dog it or he would play better???? Neither happened. If you are stupid enough to play a game and continue to play after 35 games down.... I would at least try to change the game??? I did give Donny Anderson 8-6 and robbed him in the eighties with Greg Sullivan backing him. Truth be told as far as I know I am the only person other that Gary that beat Bugs even. He quit winner though. I played him 4 times and won 3. Piggy never ever beat me for the cash. I will still play anyone on a Gold Crown. As for stealing balls... I was stealing them back! Tony Fargo would not bet his own. It took Shannon 5 days to beat me when I had a torn rotator cuff. I had to play him in Tennessee ONLY to play him. Gary was a great player. No doubt. Great ball striker. He would shoot at a white flag though.. lol That's how I beat him. The end rail always prevails!:-) 4 time undefeated national bank poll champion. Bugs Could never give Donny Anderson 8-6 and win. Him and Gary played even or a ball or so difference?? Just to clear up the scuttlebutt. lol

Good to see you posting mark!!

All I heard was on some accu stat commentary. Freddy was saying how Mark was pretty much the man in banks when the match he was commentating went off (maybe 10 years ago?). Whether it was perfectly accurate or not, that is some pretty high praise, and i'm sure it was accurate. Mark isn't a household name, but he has proven he can hold his own and then some with the best of them. Just some random thoughts.

Again, good to see you posting.

Regards.

You sure did bank them pretty sporty, Mark. I

I'm curious as to what years you were beating bugs even. No fault of your own, but I would wager that Bugs was past his prime at that point.

My favorite DCC moment ever (none else are even close)??? When Mark messed with the wrong guys girl and he got knocked out.... When he came to the cops asked him who hit him and he said "Some big gorilla looking mf'er!". LMAO. There were 20-25 of us that seen the whole thing start to finish and Mark was so out of line when the cops asked us what we seen the word all the way down the line was "Nothin".

That was the same year that Shannon and Freezer got into a 2 or 3am drunken slap fest.... It was like watching two 6th grade girls go at it.... LOL

hi brandon!!

In bank pool he was a ball under the top bankers. But his 9 ball was much lower, like he'd probably need at least the 7 ball against the top guys. Actually now that I think about it he'd need more than that, I saw Pagulayan beat another known player giving him the 7 and this guy was definitely better than Jarvis.

Have any of those guys give him "more than the 7" when he was playing and i'm betting on him all day. That's just one guy's opinion :)

you could hear a pin drop

when Mark Jarvis got on here and replyed to what sherm said lol ......... must of been a lil more to it id say hmmmmmm

Jarvis's claim that he was only stealing back the balls that Gary had already stolen is ridiculous. Anyone that knew the two knew that Gary played like a gentleman and Mark had a rep for cheating, sharking and not paying off.
Some of his other claims are just as absurd. Giving 8 to 6 to Donnie Anderson in the 80s? That would be like me challenging Superman to a fist fight without kryptonite, and still kicking his ass. Unless Donnie played while in a wheelchair, or hooked up to an oxygen tank, that didnt happen.
Mark did play a good speed of bank, but nothing like his "mind" speed.
