I play with an 84-7. I have played with some Meuccis made in the early 90's and they seem to be well built, using quality materials. I get so tired of defending my use of a Meucci, that I just let it go in one ear and out the other. I don't think I will ever part with my 84-7. It hits as well a any stick I try and although a simple design (which I prefer) it's highly figured birds eye forearm and butt sleeve surpass in beauty all but expensive customs. Back to playability. The Meucci haters logic goes like this. They do not play well,the hit does not feel good, to much whip , squirt , miscues and on and on. Their play is therefore negatively effected by using a Meucci. If this is true , then, if I switch to a more socially acceptable brand my game should improve by maybe a ball? or one rating level? Hogwash. As for whether they are good cues, well, Iplay with my 84-7 and it's beautiful, the butts straight, the original shaft is straight the ferrule is in good condition the joint is in good condition and it never misses a shot or position if I use it correctly. They're damned fine cues. :thumbup2:.

I think the quality is poor, and has always been pretty poor. I have had probably 50-100 of them and they were all pretty poorly made and played poorly. IMO, for those who think these are great playing cues , well enjoy them, but I curious what you are comparing them to? IMO, there are great custom cues for less money that play much much better.

I have made tons of money buying and selling them. Easy to buy and relatively easy to sell. Low end cues.

The Road Agent cue was an interesting and creative design.

I always giggle at folks who have them and use them as break cues. I cannot imagine a cue worse for breaking.

As far as the arguement saying that they have won more tournaments than any other cue.......well Bob Meucci did sponsor several top players and there werent alot of choices, so that statement is probably still true. Earl and Allison have won a few with Cuetechs and if someone would argue that they are best based on the number of tournaments they won......

I see so many people throwing away money on cues, it truely amazes me.

Ken, I didn't say that Meucci cues "are best" because of the number of tournaments pros have won using them. And I'm well aware that many of the pros who used them at one time or another were doing so because of sponsorship from Meucci. But the fact is that an enormous amount of play at the highest levels has been done with Meucci cues. Meucci cues of the past apparently did not prevent top amateurs and pros from shooting well with them. I would suggest that's probably still true -- despite the enormous quality-control problems the company has had.

A Meucci Original was my first cue ever. Dads friend sold it to me for $50. I shot with the stock shaft on it for 2 years probably and then got one of the First 314 shafts for it and played with that up intil about 2 years ago so in total I played with my Meucci Original for 11 Years and LOVED it. It was very hard to let go. I bought and sold many custom cues before I found my new shooter which is a Sugar Tree. I got her refinished by Scott Sherbine and now she just sits in the closet

Thanks for the info. I'm looking for a back up cue to my JossWest. I like the old school players, so I figured I'd ask about the early Meucci's.

I have owned several Meucci's and have found those made later than 95 tend to be crappy. I have three currently an oldies 1 and an oldies 2 also a gambler model.All three were made in the late eighties The oldies series play closer to your JW . I can't lie Meucci's (made before 95) are my guilty pleasure! I own several other custom cues but I still play with oldies 1 cue and my Dale Pierce (PDCUES on here, his cues hit like a truck!) I would look for cues made before 95 and pre dot shafts. IMO.

what amazes me is you said youve had 50-100 off them(...wich is it 50 or 100)...then you imply that youve sold them all rather easily...than you continue to call them garbage....

Why would you sell a product that you consider garbage to others....and why would you buy 100 of them and support at company that in your eyes produces garbage?

Meucci is fine if you like them...use it. ...personally i dont like the cues...but i will say Bob Meucci is a design genious as far as his cues looks.....he broke the mold that everybody used and did his own things with inlays that nobody else did (some look bad...some designs are completely awsome...for that i give him alot of respect i know a few players pretty well that have won a few state championchips using meucci cues...
