Pool Cues

I'm about to buy a new pool cue. My budget is around 300/bucks. I'm looking at Viking-Joss-Lucasi. Someone recently mentioned that I should also consider Pechauer. I'm open to suggestions and opinions.

Thanks

Cant go wrong with a joss in my book. Peach's are good, just not my cup of tea. Lucasi's I haven't really delt with. Best thing I could tell you to do is find a place that sells them, and take a test drive.

Go with the Joss, Danny Janes is hall of fame cuemaker for good reason.

Buy American - Lucasi cues are made in China.

You might want to consider adding mcdermott in your potential list. american made, lifetime warranty and they play very well. good selection under $300.

thanks...

Thanks guys. I do want an American manufacturer. I recently called one of the bigger internet dealers (authorized) and he told me that he much preferred Viking over Joss. He said that he had only taken back one Viking for warpage-and probably about 20 Joss's. Although on the website they advertise that Joss is the best value in the 200-500 range.

One more question: Is the difference between a 200 dollar stick and a 500 dollar stick just asthetic value?

Thanks again,

the most important thing is that you like the stick. if you have a decent shop near you, it always best to try a stick out before you buy it.

fwiw, if you want a viking, i have a viking with joint protectors and a 1x1 case for sale in the for sale section. $150 for everything.

There you go! You must play with a cue first. How else will you know if you like how it feels? Hitting a few balls can make all the difference in the world. That way you can tell if you like the balance and the hit of the cue. No one else can tell you how a cue will feel to you. Only you can do that.

Go to a tournament and meet some cue dealers or go to a local billiard retailer and try out some cues. Or even check the pro shops at your local poolroom. Try before you buy and you won't regret it.

When I went cue shopping, I went to a small local hall that sold mcdermott, joss and lucasi cues. I did a blind test. I had the owner hand me a cue and I hit a few balls with it. I didnt pay attention to how it looked, the make or the price. All I cared about was how it hit.
After a about an hour of testing about 10 cues, I narrowed my selection down to three cues that I liked, and repeated the process. I hit a few more balls with each until I found the cue that I just had to have.
When I saw the price tag of my Elite Sedona, which was $700 bucks, (about 300 more than i wanted to pay) the cue just hit soooo well and was just so beautiful that I just had to have it. I wouldnt trade it for the world.
I know thats out of your price range, but maybe do something like I did, but limit the cue selection to 200-300 bucks.

joss experience

My buddy lent me an older Joss to shoot with tonight. Now I know why you need to base your decision on "how the stick feels" factor. I was very impressed with the Joss....Thanks again for all the comments and opinions.

cuetec has a new designed shaft. bare wood, low deflection, and a very good price.

i like the one i got this past year. allison fischer and shane vanboening uses them.

R360 is the one you want to check out, it is the R360 shaft design that matters.
