Hey Mark, I truly appreciate it...
I am not sure what ENZO is saying. (he says it is only a statement)
This is a $75 tournament. We pay 64 places (1/3 of the field).
The total registration and green fees is $15.
There is $4,000 added.
I think it is one of the best deals there is. Get to watch some GREAT pool and see friends every year. It is the biggest big table event in the country except for the US Open 9-ball.
I donate my time and expenses PLUS all of the promotion costs. I lose about $500 - $1,000 every year to do this event to promote pool and to remind everyone who Jay Swanson was.
As far as I am concerned - if someone does not think it is a fair deal - then please go somewhere else on that weekend.

Mark, I just wanted to say how much I appreciate you putting on this tourney. I've had difficulty the past decade playing to my capability in tourney and money play and I've been using the swannee as a way to judge how I've been coming toward being able to play to my ability.
This last tournament has been the first time in 15 years that I've been able to overcome the mindset problems a little bit and come close to playing how I am capable of practicing and in large part it's in thanks to this tournament that you've put on since 96.
While I was involved in pool in the early to mid nineties, I didn't come down to San Diego until I joined the Navy in 2000 so I didn't get a chance to meet the gentle giant. With all of the stories I've heard about him I wish I could have and even if I didn't play to my abillity and if i doubled out of every tournament I would still come to the swannee memorial.
Pool has been one of my passions and I could never give it up entirely, but family issues have limited how often I can play which I don't mind. It is known in my house that barring a family emergency, I will be at the Swanee every year and I will continue to do so as long as I am able.
I would be willing to pay 150 or more and I would still come to the tournament. With it selling out as easily as it does, you might even consider raising the entry fee a little bit.
Once you sold College and 4th street I was apprehensive about it being moved to hollywood, but it has been run at a high level and has only gotten better.
Considering that you have 192 players to get through in only 2 days, it is amazing that it can go off as well as it has and it has only continued to get better. I couldn't believe that we had gotten down to 48 players on Saturday and I was done by 1030 even so.
Don't let anyone tell you that it's not a great event because like you said apart from the US open and maybe DCC it is one of the biggest tournaments and toughest fields in the country and it's over in a WEEKEND, not over a week, that is insanely good.
It can be a little tough on a couple of the older players as was evident from the injuy upstairs and Frank Dabarbr having to forfeit his match due to hip[ pain, but that's more just a matter of course than anything to do with the tourney. Hell, I was concermed I might have to forfeit on sunday because of back pain myself and I'm a young buck.
I look forward to competing in more events as it appears I'm finally starting to overcome my selfimposed mental handicaps that are due to....(nevermind, that's a long story), let's just suffice it to say that a solid relationship with my wife and daughter have started to assist that aspect of life and the game.
Sorry all for the book, but I'm really starting to get excited about shooting pool again and I can't wait till the next big event I play in to see how my focus is improving and how well I'm starting to play my game with something on the line.
