Pros and the Template Racks?

It will be interesting to see which pros fight the hardest not to have to use the template rack in the US. It takes away the rack mechanic's advantage. I can understand Johnny A's not wanting it on the table. He'll see it as a giant monster lint ball. Johnnyt

Thorsten said he didn't like it (The Magic Rack). He said he doesn't bring his own table to the pool tournament.

Apparently, it provided no advantage to Jose Parica, when he played Shane.

(Wait, Jose really didn't get a chance to use the Magic Rack that much).

I think if you force yourself to use it for a few hours, you can get used to the consistency. I guess a loose rack favors the player who can read the rack the best, while the Magic Rack takes the reading out of the rack.

The other template rack that will be at the OB Cues booth at Valley Forge, well, I just haven't seen it but it sounds promising as well.

Didn't Shane make a post game comment like "I know how to rack". Whatever he said he didn't seem to appreciate the different racks.

I'll bet Jose's first monster break sold 20 racks and the remaining duds caused orders to be canceled.

I can't wait for Earl Strickland or a player with similar style explode on whoever uses it. The first time a ball has to be lifted to remove the rack fireworks will ensue.

What I don't understand is if the rack has no negative effects why don't they just leave it on the table?

At the time, I don't think Toasti knew that the promoter had made the decision to allow the use of the Magic Rack. Each player had the right to use it or not.

The tap in template thing by David Smith seems interesting. Hope to try one out soon.

It would be annoying as heck to see the thing if it is in the line of sight, the thing does NOT blend. If it is clear then that helps alot right there.

But I cannot fathom that if you happened to have a shot at a ball sitting on the rack that and you have to draw the cueball along the path of the racking paper that it would not effect the shot. Plus supposedly slow rolls are affected, they have tested that.

All of that said the matches I watched with it had the 9 squatting, not moving in the slightest, and that is nice to see.

Agree with yours and Joey's thoughts.

During the stream it was mentioned that a ball could be moved to remove the rack or leave the rack in place and play around it. I don't know what the rule would be.

No biggie, really. Those guys that are willing to rig a rack in competition will just rely on their pattern racking "skills" instead.

Watching the USBTC and seeing whats wrong with *magic rack* people constantly making 3-4 balls on every break, lol.

I've hesitated to ask for fear of de-railiing someones for sale thread but regarding the slow rolling ball don't they roll "off" when they hit the rack?... just like they do sometimes when they hit the spot?
