Good day Sirs.

We have our thoughts but not so sure what kind of wood this is. It came with one of our shipments but without a tag or label. Any help identifying it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Looks similar to the Amboyna that Sir Edwin Reyes gave me on my last visit to his shop. I'd like to visit your shop on my next trip if that's possible.

ID wood...

It looks like Jarrah Burl to me... or second grade camphor burl...

Just my 2 cents.

Looks like my thuya burl. But who knows? Smelling it & feeling it would say a lot more than pics. I have seen oak burl that looks like that stuff. Lots of burls look alike. I would second the jarrah, too. But i'm not so sure about camphor.

Jarra sounds good does it have a unique smell? Camphor will.....

definitely not camphor as we have stocks of camphor wood. but i haven't really smelled it haha. :D i checked my computer archive for wood appearance & texture and as suggested by most, i believe thuya is the closest.

so many thanks for your help guys. i really appreciate it.

i'll smell it later.

i guess maybe the smell will unveil it. i hope to take the 45km drive later to the shop. in the philippines, a 20km drive seems to be like a hundred because of the traffic. :(

When it was first presented I thought it looked like a very bland piece of Thuya burl. It certainly isn't very figured. I'm not familiar with redwood burl so it could be that.
