Sorry for not being able to find them...

Where are results posted???

Brackets?

Stories?

It looks as if SVB won; Pinnager (sp?) 2nd; Corey 3rd; Hohmann 4th. I have no idea about the story since I did not watch the final match after SVB was up 5-2 going to 13. SVB was on the one loss side but they played one set to 13.

Anyone know what happened to the womens tourney? it has been very hard to get up to date info outside of the live streaming, which was great. The brackets at insidepoolmag.com have not been updated yet.

Clatterbuck, Vidal and Shorty all in the top 4? They call this an amateur tournament?

LOL; that is exactly what I was thinking and I was also wondering if maybe that was Troy Frank in the #2 position...lol.

There were also some other players outside of the top 4 that I saw on the charts; some that come to mind are Chris Loar, Dee Adkins and Joe Dipietro. I am sure there were others, as well.

Although all the guys above play real good . None of them play great and to be a pro you need to play great. Yes they play in pro events and sometimes do ok but that doesn't mean they play pro speed. Do you know what these guys would need to play a guy like SVB. Forget about SVB what do they need to play Chris B. and what does Chris B. need to play a top pro. My point is there are a lot of speeds in between these guys and a solid pro.

If there was a solid pro tour with real money being paid these guys would be invisible. Just because the waters are murky in Men's pool it doesn't mean we need to graduate every solid playing pool player to pro-status.

Manny Chau was also in this event.

About the only people who would classify Clatterbuck, Vidal, Shorty and Chau amateurs on the barboxes would be Clatterbuck, Vidal, Shorty and Chau. And their stakehorses. And the guys who got them in a calcutta if there was one. All the other true amateurs who were steamrolled by these guys as they plowed through the near 800 man field were probably wondering how is that this guy is allowed in the event.

Every single one of those guys runs around the country playing pool. They are there in Reno for a week for the US Bartable, two weeks at the derby, a week more at SBE and many more spots during the year. They regularly get staked for 4-5 figure sets. All of them would probably get up and play the 12ball ghost some on a decent table with regular sized pockets.

Does any of that sound like many "Amateurs" you know of?

I do agree that they do not play the touring pro level of Mika/SVB/Pinoy, but those guys just rape true amateurs on the pool table. Its a joke.

The thing about amatuers is it carry's such a wide variety of skill from beginner to almost pro. When you have 1028 amatuers you are going to have a bunch of really unfair matches. I will tell you there were plenty of amateurs playing on the 100 table that are far from getting raped in short races to 5 on a barbox.

Spain has played in this event a lot of years and never done anything until this year. My friend who has more than a fair chance to beat any of these guys on a barbox or 9 foot table lost in the first round of the amateur. There are a lot of really good barbox amatuer players out there. I think you may be selling a lot of these amatuers short.

Clatterbuck beat Oscar Dominguez even in a long ahead set for a lot of cash...how many speeds do you think there are between them?

Matt could do fine with the pros, he's a solid player.

Not speaking for Allen but .... Do you really think he sees every entry? There are some of the young guns even I've not seen before. Next year Matt will certainly be asked to play in the pro event. So will Marc. Tom (Shorty) D'alphonso is another name that keeps popping up most everywhere. I believe Allen does the best he can to keep the field level.

Having said that, when is someone going to re-define who a professional pool player is? Anyone whose only job is travelling around the country playing pool for a living is a professional, period. Whether or not he (or she) plays in a professional tournament and is ranked. My feeling is the people who are "in charge" of amateur pool have shirked their duty in defining a "pro". More entries for their "amateur" events. In reality, who wins is not important! Number of entries in a tough economy is.

BCAPL offers the Grand Master division to players of the caliber I'm talking about. But why would "they" choose to knock heads when "they" can steal from the true amateurs. More has to be done. Will it be? Only the sanctioning bodies can do the trick. That includes Allen Hopkins Productions.

I was fortunate to watch sklyer play the finals of the 17 and under. Talk about an up and comer. The kid he was playing against was very good but was constantly out of postion and having to jump to make balls...bank and kick balls in. Thats great to watch but skyler can just play. He always makes good decisions and never seemed to be out of position. They were hill hill in the last set. He broke ..played a lock down safe..then played another...then calmly ran out like he was on the practice tables. He smiled the whole time no matter what was happening. Good kid and I'm definitly now a fan.

Problem with American Pool #467: There is no organization to establish competitive levels, therefore, the placement of players within ranks of "Amateur", "Open", "Pro" are meaningless, arbitrary, & purely subjective. How can you be upset when chaos rules?

I disagree. There are sanctioning bodies to establish competitive levels. As I mentioned in an earlier post in this thread, it is not in their best interest to keep players from participating in amateur events. That is why chaos rules!

Well I saw Matt just get absolutley tortured by John Morra in a ahead for a decent amount of money at this year's US OPEN. The same John Morra Oscar destroyed. How long ago did Matt play Oscar and was it on a barbox or 9 footer.

Matt is a very solid player I just don't think he is a pro. No Knock on his game at all. We just have a different defintion of Pro that's all.

He played during the expo. And is playing well. On a barbox.
