thinking about a mezz

Hi everybody!

I'm thinking about buying a mezz cue, but I'm a little confused about the diferent models and shafts, I want to spend up to 600$. For what I see most of the profesional players use a WD700 shaft although there are other newest shafts from mezz. On the other hand there's a wide variety of butts that are used by them (ACE, AXI, ZZ, etc..). I like the ZZ-08 model but I don´t really know if It's the right choice for the money.

Hybrid Pro II is preferred by most, but the WD700 is the best bang for the buck ($120+ cheaper). It's also the shaft Mika uses, so you really can't go wrong there.

As for the joint, both the United and the Wavy are amazing. In fact, both are the best fitting joints that I've ever seen. If you think you might want to switch to a Predator shaft later on (unlikely), then I'd suggest the United joint (as it has a more common threading), but otherwise I guarantee you'll be happy with either.

Lastly, the butt is purely for aesthetics. All Mezz cues are well constructed, so the more you spend, the more you're investing in exotic woods and inlay/ring work.

All in all, Mezz is voted by many as the best production cue on the market.

Now I have a schon cue with a 314-2 but It's time to taste different!! Everything to what I have listened about mezz is good.

Depends a lot of what you are looking for:

- if it is just for possessing and playing an excellent pool instrument you won't go wrong with Mezz/WD700;Markus Chamat is playing with a zz-08/WD700 for a while now, see below, picture comes from the EC of last week.
I don't believe the hybrid shafts are worth the additional money and you'll have to adapt to the more "synthetic" hit coming from schon, which can be an issue: you'll like it or hate it. Personally I like the combination united joint/wd700/kamui black soft tips the most

- if you think to buy it and resell it, pass your way, Mezz cues have no reselling value, as most of the other production cues with the nuance that they have far superior playability for the money

Additionaly:

Pay attention in which country you are going to buy the cue: do it in US if you can, Mezz is selling cues for 30% more in Europe (as most of the other production cue makers) and there is no justification for this.

You'll be also able to request a customization for your own needs (length or whatever) but it will take 6 more months and you'll have to deal with the official Mezz importer for your country, which may be a financial isuue if you're in Europe

Just do it! I have had a lot of other cues before and I just recently bought a MEZZ with the WD700 and I am in love.
 
Serge thx for the information, I will buy a WD700 and maybe with the ZZ-09 or ZZ--09 cue because the ACE series are very expensive for me. I hope it don´t be hard to adapt my game coming from a 314-2.

I had the ZZ-09 and it was the nutz..... I had it for a short while, and I paid about five-and-a-1/2 for it and traded it to Buddy Hall for some lessons, and he turned right around and sold it for $450 to a guy in the pool hall....... and never made good on the lessons.... that just goes to show that you can learn much more than a game of pool when you deal with someone who has been around the track a time or two.......

anyway, the cue was very stiff, and it has a very sweet design with an elegant touch. The cue was flawless..... absolutely flawless...... I got mine from Greg at Billiard Warehouse. He will take care of you.
