I'm looking to try out a new break cue and am interested in hearing some reviews. So, who has a good break cue and what makes it good? What type of tip is the best for you?

I just got a stinger a couple weeks ago, you need to try it out.

I may be heading to Indy tonight, you gonna be over there?

I shoot with an OB Break cue. This bad boy is solid and I am breaking well with it. It's well built and Royce and Co back their product 100%. The tip is Samsara.

I use a Predator BK2 with a White Diamond tip. Very satisfied with this setup.

Technique and execution are of course the keys to a consistently great break. The break cue, to a much lesser degree, is also important. If you have the technique and execution aspects covered, there are probably a number of good equipment options, such as the combo I use.

Best,
Brian kc

I also use a bk2 I love it. It has a nice hit.

I'll third that. It took a slight period of adjustment for me to keep the ball on the table, but once I realized I didn't have to crush the ball to get a solid hit, I was golden. The BK2 provides a very solid hit. It comes with a phenolic tip that I have continued to use since I bought it nearly three years ago. I have heard though that Predator cues (break and jump cues) play well with the White Diamond tips.

Locally some have parked their BK2 cues and bought OB Break cues from me.
The feedback is that they like the low deflection construction and many like the
feel and power the Samsara tip gives.

Also, I would recommend you checking out the Power Break DI and Power Break II
from Mezz. A ton of technology in their construction and built quality is superb -
not to forget the power they deliver. Not cheap though...

I bought a J&J jump/break from an AZ'er.....I think it had a samsara originally installed, but it was worn down so I installed an "Icebreaker" tip.
I love the way it breaks, and yes I know the Icebreaker is illegal for some league and tourny use....but it is the best combo tip made IMHO.....Dan

I use a J&J Break Jump with a samsare tip. It breaks very well but only jumps ok unfortunately. If i have a real close tight jump I cant do it with this jump cue.

I was going to start a thread asking what is the best Break Jump cue out there, Meaning it has to break very well and jump effortlessly.

The Samsara tip is not optimum for jump, but on a good break cue it puts more
than enough power to the break.
In respect of jump + break cue : If you can afford to have a separate break cue
which is built for low deflection and then possibly buy a jump in addition - this is the ideal
combo if you ask me.
The reason is that there is different properties which is optimum for each situation - hence cue.

I think I am starting to realize this. Maybe my next big investment in pool will be a stellar break cue and a stellar jumper as well. Thanks for the input.

I started with a McDermott B+J. Could not jump at all with the stock tip.

Was then one of the first to get Mikes G "Sledgehammer" (locally) and had a decent
break and a average control. I could loose control on the CB very easily where
the CB took a "round around the table" if I was not 100% accurate.
I also had problems to repeat breaks with good accuracy.

Then I had a prototype of OB Cues break shaft. Felt totally different when I mounted
this on the mentioned McDermott. Felt like I had much more control and I could
for some reason freeze the cue ball and do 2-3 break and run if the CB did not get
any knocks.
I dragged 50% of the Sledgehammer with me just to do jumps - which the cue was
OK for. However when I tested a dedicated jump cue I was kind of sold. Jumping
was so effortlessly with the Jump cue I used, that even my grand mother could do it..

Bottom line is :
Break cue needs low deflection to be accurate and hit the rack where you like
the CB to hit.
Jump cue should have more deflection so the tip could deflect away from the
CB so it could jump....

Just my thoughts on it ..

Newton, just out of curiousity, which jump cue did you test?

First dedicated jump was a AirHog from Lucasi. I could jump very easily with this
but the "shaft" part could be a little sticky. I love the rubber grip and used it
until the cue warped and lost clear coat around the joint.

The current cue I use is this one from Mezz :
http://www.miki-mezz.com/world/cues/airdrive/index.html

This cue has two shafts ! One "normal" shaft together with a normal short grip.
I use this for normal jumps and this is the one I'm referring to when I say even grany could do it :)
Then you have a short - fat shaft which you attach to the normal shaft for those
ultra short "dart jump" shots.

With the Mezz I can Masse and jump without problems - if needed:wink:

see sig. I love my PB1 DI pro setup sonic tip on the pro, samsara installed on original DI shaft.

would have got the PB2, but don't like the shorter length...after all these years of playing, it just seems odd!

The short length on the PB2 was strange for me as well. But I have long arms
which works against me. I did however manage to get good breaks with this as well
but that was after some practice.

How did you feel the Sonic performed compared to the Samsara? Not a
combo I have tried :)

Started w/ a J&J 20 oz. Break Cue. Just ordered An Elite 27 oz. Can't wait to get it.

Wonder if the cue ball will even stay on the table!?
