Whitten cases made in china

would it really be that bad of a thing if we were 20 years behind?

Yes. It would be. There is no better time in human history than the present.

Just go through all aspects of life and start ticking off all the ways that we are better off now than 20 years ago.

And do the same for 50 years ago, 100 years ago. etc...

Polio is gone. Measles is gone from the USA. You literally have the world's knowledge available to you in the palm of your hand.

The guy who saved himself in the Haiti earthquake by calling up a first aid app on his Iphone would have been dead in the same situation 20 years ago.

20 years ago Whitten wouldn't have been able to get the word out about counterfeit cases to a world wide audience in a matter of minutes.

You should consider going back to school to learn basic economics before trying to teach them.

I won't bother to elaborate on why you are wrong because it would be wasted effort. If you LOVE humanity and truth then MAYBE you will take the time to educate yourself about why your statements above are not only economically wrong but also morally wrong.

Pass the popcorn.

One other thing I found fascinating and revealing about China. Ask someone (anyone) who The Beatles are? Or how about Neil Armstrong? Or Elvis?

It may have changed somewhat in the last few years, with the internet, but few, if any, Chinese ADULTS knew who any of these people were, even three years ago. Never heard of them! That is an indication of how censored their media (and education system) was for many, many years. Now with the internet that has to be changing.

I think China is what Japan was 15-20 years ago with it products, give them a few more years, and they will have everything they do down too 100% QUALITY.

Remember when I was a Kid laughing at CHEAP toys MADE in JAPAN, now who is laughing.

It's been a little longer than 20 years. Haha.

You can thank General Douglas MacArthur and a man named W. Edwards Deming for Japanese quality. Both Americans!

you can argue both ways on this depending on your like or dislike of certain things...we have a lot of conviences that i love but 20,50 or even 100 years ago most people had strong family values and morals, which are becoming a thing of the past...not hear to argue about this just putting in my 2 cents

Maybe but how many Chinese pop stars do you know of? How about Chinese cultural icons?

Is the American educational and media censored because they don't teach Chinese history or report on Chinese entertainment?

I think it's very hard for Western people to understand that a huge part of the population in China is just not interested in American culture. They have their own here and it's deep. That's not to say that they aren't influenced by Western culture. They are of course because the musicians all know who the Beatles were.

I know you are a betting man Jay. So I will make this bet with you. I will take a Chinese sixth grader and you can have an American 12th grader and we will give them both simple math problems and I bet the Chinese sixth grader will outperform the American 12th grader.

I think though that if you really got to know more people here you would find that your perceptions change. People do know who the Beatles are and what's going on in the world.

I'd bet that the Chinese on average consume more American tv than Americans do. I say this because of the rabid consumption of all tv shows and movies that happens here. Have you ever seen a "Prison Break" T-shirt? They were all over the place here last year until everyone got through all the seasons and it's over.

And of course the internet - which everyone has - literally every shop has internet and people are on it all the time and they all know how to get around the Chinese government's firewall. But they don't need to because China has versions of everything that we have and more.

I don't know this for sure but I'd bet that they teach who Neil Armstrong is in school here. I will find out tomorrow. I am not surprised though that the average adult wouldn't recall who that is. Just like when Jay Leno goes out on the street in Burbank and asks American adults simple historical questions and they can't answer them. Most people don't retain what they don't use without effort. People like you and me do because we are reflective and being able to remember events and facts is important to what we do. We also have reverence for national heroes like Neil Armstrong and to the Chinese he's an American who did something on behalf of America. Ask them about their own heroes and they can tell you all about them because they have respect and reverence for their own.

Jeeze how did this freaking thread turn into another ****ing China bashing frenzy.

I swear this is my last post on this. Chinese people sweat and fornicate and procreate and live and die like the rest of us. People try to remember that these are HUMAN BEINGS here.

Who gives a shit about their government? All governments are corrupt and full of corrupt people clinging to power. No matter what government you HAPPEN to live under you still have to figure out how to make a life. If you are an American reading this then consider yourself lucky that you born an American in the modern era. You could have been born as a Chinese or Cuban or an African or a Haitian etc....

Keep this crap in the NPR section. If you want to bash China then go there and go off.

All I know is I have an authentic JB case made in China and delivered in person and I would trade it for 10 Ivan Belmontes. thanks again JB.

Well I beg to differ, especially going back just 20 years at the beginning of the 90's and coming off the 80s.

I think people are nostalgic and blind to the realities and hidden dysfunctions in families and society as a whole. We remember the good things like Norman Rockwell paintings and forget the bad things like sending all the Japanese to internment camps.

I submit to you as a person whose upbringing was as far from "strong family values and morals" as it could be that it's a fantasy to think that such things were ever in reality any stronger than today. I think it's just easier to believe that they were.

Of course I wouldn't know as I didn't have any of that as a kid. (everyone take pity on me now, I will be on Oprah next week).

My Point was the Chinese are about where Japan was 15-20 YEARS ago with the Quality of their products, and the GAP is shrinking FAST!

My grandmother use to work in the garment industry in NYC, sewing Men's Dress Shirts, she worked and was paid by the Unit Produced. She was Represented by the International Ladies Garment Works Union, and retired with a $39.00/MONTH PENSION in the 1970's.

Those shirts are now made in Pakistan, and the Quality & Price is the same proportionally when my Grandmother was sewing them. The men buying the shirt have NO CHOICE, as there are no ladies sewing shirt for a living in the USA like there once was the jobs have gone off shore!.

Hi CC:

Not to be too much of a stickler but Japan's quality of goods 15-20 years ago was outstanding. Chinese product quality is, well, an oxymoron.

Best,
Brian KC

I was at a Custom Car Show several Saturday ago, one of the VENDOR was selling Custom Wheels, the QUALITY WAS OUTSTANDING! Wheels were MADE IN CHINA!!!!

Just for accuracy, American Apparel makes clothes in CA.

You're welcome. I will trade you an ostrich passport holder made out of the matching leather to your case if you will take some pictures for me. I am still kicking myself for letting that case go without getting lots of pictures. :-)

John, I'm not sure I bashed anybody here, just told a couple of stories from my experience. Sorry you took it that way. I happen to like the Chinese people I have met, both here and abroad.

I did find it strange that they didn't know who the first man on the Moon was though. You've been there three years and you still aren't aware of this phenomena. I found out by asking questions my first week there. I guess I'm just the curious type.

IMO Neil Armstrong is symbolic of an accomplishment by the human race, not any one country. His name will be remembered long after most other contemporary figures are long forgotten.

I do know that China invented gunpowder and what to do with it nearly 1,000 years ago. I have walked The Great Wall, and am aware that it is the most noticeable landmark on Earth when viewed from space. The ancient cities of China are among the oldest continuous communities on Earth, some with histories dating back thousands of years. In the midst of some metropolitan areas (Bejing/Peking and Guangzhou/Canton to name two) they have preserved the remains of ancient palaces and other structures long since buried by newer civilizations.

The Peoples Republic of China is a fascinating place to me, home to over 20% of the world's population, and some damn good pool players. It is an ancient culture which deserves our respect and study, in many ways more advanced than our "new" society.

well i'm not gonna pity you as we all had and have our share of problems and difficuties...but i will pray for you

Well JB I will say this for you you got some brass balls.

Two main problems the Whitten family have one is counterfieting and foreign competition.

You may not be doing the first, but you do exploit the chinese labor cost or you wouldn't be in China. I personally don't care if you want to become a Shao Lin monk and bash your groin with a 2 X 4.
(be my guest I believe in freedom).
But defending china in any way is an insult to this family and their business
Its like Lee Harvey Oswald consoloing Mrs. Kennedy
Now if you'd like to fork out $500,000 for all the loss you already done to their business (because they may not want to move to China they might like it here) . If not hush and stop tristing the knife

I realize this this is the World wide web not the American web
and I've been to many a foreign country. I due respect the chinese person proud of his chinese culture but an american living in China thats a little different.
MY BEST WISHES TO THE WHITTEN'S
I will pass the word to as many people I can.
It may not help at all but I'll feel better.
