Why antagonize posters with dumba** BS???

I see more and more threads by posters (including myself) with serious topics of discussion have their threads invaded by a bunch of degenerate crap written by people with no obvious intention of doing anything but trying to get under somebody's collar. Did someone get under mine? Yep. For all practical intents and purposes, on another thread I was basically called a liar and that I had a problem to which I am in denial of. I cannot understand for the life of me why people have to take a perfectly sound topic and bastardize the living daylights out of it with their senseless drivel. To toss a friendly joke about (as in Tramp Steamer, Newstroke, BigPerm, or like Smorg used to do is a totally different matter as we ALL knew that a harmless line of funny crap was going to spew from their keyboards) is one thing, but sometimes you gotta feel as though you are under attack!!!.

This is such a useful site for information and opinions. Thank God for the many in the majority that do not abuse the site.

It just takes a few turds in the well to make the water smell bad. I hope things don't get any worse than they seem to be lately.

I'm gonna go have dinner with my grandkids and take a "chill pill" later. I'm okay, just feel like venting a bit.

Luv ya all and good shootin' to ya!!!

There's some saying about "never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity".

After many years on forums I've come to the conclusion that actual trolls who look to rile people up are pretty rare. Most of the guys we call trolls are just people who disagree with us and don't do it in a sane, respectful, tactful way. When you mix an opinion formed in ignorance with someone who's generally got lousy social skills... you get posts that sound almost too stupid to believe... like the guy must be going out of his way to piss you off.

Usually he's not.

If you can get a thick skin and talk to people as if everything they say is valid, you might like the direction the thread takes better than getting personally offended. Whatever happened probably wasn't personal.

All true, CreeDo, but there certainly are many who intentionally stir the pot a bit. The key is recognizing it is happening.

There are a few turds in the punchbowl, so to speak. I generally don't let anyone get to me for longer than a minute or two. Maniac, us sane people will just have to learn to let the crazies be crazy.

I'll completely agree though, that there is nothing worse than a thread that gets turned upside down because of one stupid comment. I hate when a post gets derailed and bumped off topic because someone is being an assh*le. Those are the posts that linger on the front page for weeks and end up with 300 replies because two people are having a pissing contest and don't have the decency to leave the rest of us out of it.

Actually maniac, after reading the thread you were talking about, I think we may have hit on one of the rare ones. I remember thinking before of Geometry "man, this seems like one of those guys who automatically sides against whatever the popular opinion is." He doesn't strike me as dumb enough to believe that stuff he posted in the gambling thread. It smells like potstirring. I think a good all-purpose response is:

PS to 9ball: I'm second that one... some topics are like 'thread viruses' and once the thread is infected, you might as well put it down. Btw what do you guys think of sandbaggers in the APA, people who won't gamble, center-to-edge aiming, women's pool ability, obama, expensive custom cues, gun control and abortion?

Now THAT is funny. But you forgot about banning jump cues, who makes the best tip, and illegal immigration
