i honestl;y can't figure out a good item to vote for in the poll, but i want to be able to sell stuff here in the cue maker section just like we always have.

it will benefit the buyer and the seller, and it is crazy not to be able to sell cue making supplies in the cue maker section.

Regardless of how everyone feels about the issue, at the end of the day it's the 'powers that be' who will decide what goes on here. Can they be swayed or influenced? Has the poll gotten anyone's attention?

The 'sticky' posted by Mr. Wilson is posted in the ATCM section.
In his second post in that sticky he states that "This is not a sales forum." (meaning, the ATCM section). I wholeheartedly agree with that.
ATCM section is for gaining and sharing information, not for sales.

However, the Cue Machinery section is best positioned as an area to conduct sales. Sales of cue related machinery, fixtures, tooling and etc. are routinely posted. It seems that's where the CMs 'business' is already being conducted. How are pins, bumpers and everything in btwn. any different when it comes to the things the CM needs to do his job?
It all comes under the same heading of tools, supplies and equipment to build the cue. The forearm and the tool-bit that cuts it are of equal importance, at least to the CM.

Also stated was that sales should be conducted in the Wanted/For-Sale section of the Main Forum. This has many ramifications.
As I've watched this thread unfold, I've had a recurring thought.
Is the reason for putting the sales in the W/FS section to allow everyone on the forum equal opportunity to purchase said item?
That would be a considerate gesture except that 99% of the people that frequent that forum are either buying or selling cues or cases. They have no interest whatsoever in cue parts or supplies and if they did have a sudden urge to buy a butt-sleeve or whatever, they'd toddle down to where the CMs hang-out and make their inquiry there.

The W/FS section moves pretty quick to say the least. If you're only on there once a day, you're already 3 pgs. behind.
Cue parts & supplies are cue-maker specific. Put them where the CMs are.
Conversely, when we want to sell a cue, we take them up to the proper forum, W/FS. It's about target audience/market.

It would seem that this is a very simple problem with an equally simple solution. All that's required is a decision.
If there are voices in the background who take exception to this, I ask that those voices be brought forward so that we may address their concerns; as a group, as a democracy.

The sad fact is that the policy makes absolutely no sense and actually defeats it's purpose. They say that prices can't be listed and must be done by PM so that the whole world won't know the prices and then they make you put the items on the for sale forum just so the whole world CAN see them.
Typical bureaucratic logic. Whom ever is in charge must have got their training and outlook from working for the government.

Well Stated Dick!! If you post on wanted for sale it's on page 3 within a day. Why not have items for cue makers with prices on Cue Machinery where cue makers browse?

Who really cares !!! If you have to stir the pot just add a cuemakers section and limit sales to there !!! Who really cares ... I enjoy dealing with most on here and get some great deals ... I think someone should get rid of the shysters who misrepresent the products , and cheat the customers ... Put that to a vote !!!

The sticky pertaining to CM's sources and wholesale pricing is located in the ATCM section. Rightly so, that is not a 'sales' forum. It's for sharing information, not sales.
There is no such sticky in the Cue Machinery section. I don't think the ban on sales of mtrls, etc. applies there, only in the ATCM section.
As I read it, the sticky (in ATCM) is there to protect the CM's sources and THEIR pricing. These prices are not available to the public and the public has no right to know those prices.
I also see the logic in protecting those sources by sharing them through PM rather than openly. I don't want the buying public knowing where I get my mtrls or what I pay for them. Frankly, it's none of their business. They are buying a cue, a finished product, not my Roll-a-Dex of sources of mtrls. that went into building that cue and the prices that I have to pay for them.

The difference is that should a CM have an excess of wood, pins or whatever, and now wishes to sell that excess, he is not the source.
He has now become a middle-man. Whether he chooses to sell at a lose or a profit is his choice. It doesn't affect his source whatsoever.
There should be no problem with this as long as it's done in the proper forum. On this web-site, that forum is the Cue Machinery section.
In that forum, he should be allowed to state his price for his items in much the same fashion as if he were selling his lathe. No sources are being compromised.

I think the majority of the confusion is due to how some are interpreting the sticky; the sticky that resides in the ATCM section. If it were to also apply to the Machinery section, it would be posted there as well.
Can anyone show me specifically where sales are prohibited in the Machinery section?

Posting wholesale prices in the machinery section as a way around the rules in the cuemaking forum is certainly not the intent that was given by Mr. Wilson. What items that can be listed in the Machinery section is also open for debate. I would rather see a another section opened up for cue supplies, cue parts and wood for sale. Retail prices be the only prices posted and wholesale sources be shared by PMs. Keep the machinery section like it is and make another one for supplies and cue part, wood and such. That keeps the machinery discussion forum form having machinery discussions disappear in a few hours as everyone posts the items they have for sale.

Can anyone show me specifically where sales are prohibited in the Machinery section?

Only from past experience......
I've been openly on the forums reprimanded for posting items other than "machinery or machinery related" items in that section. Spanked and told "No soup for you!"
Also similar experience in the ATCM section.

I've also noticed many others that have posted items for sale in these two sections many times after my spanking and received not even the dunce hat treatment.

I agree that these two sections shouldn't change....BUT I also agree there is a need for some place other than the WTB/WTT/WTS section that is supposedly the only place available for now. It's a joke trying to capture our audience in that section to sell a piece of wood or some ferrule material.

I agree with you Dave, it seems that some certain members can sell and post prices in the ATCM section, and nothing is done, but someone else does it once and the ad is moved to the W/S section, and therefore buried. The rules should apply to all. A seperate section sounds great, but the powers to be have already ruled that there are to many sections as it is......(unless you have pull with the powers, IMO.)
There are some sections that are dormant for 6 months at a time, how about deleting those and then adding the one section that the cuemakers/builders have been asking for for about 5 months now???? Seems like a no-brainer to me.

I think it's because of your high-profile celebrity status.
There's more pride in catching a Walleye than there is a Blue-gill.
Fame has it's price.

I'm just a little fish in a big pond.

I do miss fishing for the wallys in Erie though!

You need to be creative.
Post up a machine for sale, then btw I have brass inserts too.

I do hope that those are fond memories for you.
I used to really enjoy fishing but anymore, who's got the time?
Lake Erie, yeah, now that's a big pond. And just think, there's 4 more of them when you get Erie fished-out. Some of my best fishing was done on Erie.

Yes, those were the days....days of fun and relaxation casting a spinner, burning a stogie and enjoying an occasional barley pop. Days before cue building began!

Thanks to everyone for participating and making the moderator's decision an easy one!
Oh- and thanks to Dave, or Ryan, who brought this poll to the mod's attention.
I hope woods, wraps, etc. are listed in the appropriate "Machinery and Supplies" section from now on.
