Yea it doesnt seem to me this guy is a collector and this cue is a player and not a collectible.

The wait and price wouldnt be worth it for a player.

a friend of mine had the same thing happen to his Gus, when it was still pretty new, Gus said it was the Birdseye's fault, anyway, Gus cut the forearm off at the break, put a black ring on it and screwed in a new piece of BEM and put the joint on that, the cue looks a little odd. it has an extra ring about an inch or so above the end of the points,

Gus was being honest just like he was always know to be. While Birdseye and other highly figured maple is in my opinion some of the most beautiful wood for a cues forearm it is also brittle and can fracture very easily if dropped. That is why in my opinion it should be cored, this way you can have the beauty and the strength which is the best of both worlds.

Might be true.
Gus mitered his points while the woods were square so coring them thru was not an option imho.

If he was so concerned about the resale value, he would not have whacked it.

I watched someone in our local room drop an older FANCY Gina and it broke almost exactly like that. Lucky for him, Jerry McWorter happened to be standing right next to me and repaired it for him. I didn't know then what I know now, but I couldn't see the repair after it was finished. The cue didn't get handed around though either.

I knew I have these .658 and .758 gun drills for a reason.
That's just too scary.
My bad about the abuse assumption.

Its all done and shipping back to the owner today. I took pics of all four points to show the repair. You can see the cracks, especially at the top and bottom of the crack but figure this is a pic zoomed in on the damage/repair. At arm's length, they are not distinguishable. Let me know what you think.

Repair

Is that Szamboti ping there when you hit the ball? They have a beautiful tone when they hit that CB... looks like a good repair.
