Starts today folks whose your money on to win? I reckon Hohmann or the Korean dragon Charlie Williams.

Will there be live scoring, a live feed, or brackets for this event?

(a very quick Google search didn't turn up anything useful)

I'm pulling for Morris on this one.

Ill take that bet!

Ill take Efren, Neils, Yang, Bustamante and Wu if he is playing.

Anyone got a website for this?

The qualifiers start today and the actual tournament next week. Looks like they will have details here:

It would be nice if the WPA would require a World Championship to have a little more publicity and be more accessible. This tournament could very well come and go and no one would even know. :boring2:

VERY strong field here! Just because you're not familiar with all the names doesn't mean they can't play. Meanwhile almost every top player alive is there. All but Donny Mills! :)

Oh, I never said it wasn't strong, it just doesn't appear to be AS strong. Maybe the Open seemed more stacked because it also had the top ladies in attendance as well. As a result, it seemed stronger pound-for-pound.
:p

But you are right never the less. On second glance, there were numerous players that I had overlooked when skimming the player list.

The following are still missing though, although having only this small handful missing is pretty strong indeed:

- Schmidt
- Kiamco
- Parica
- Hatch
- Gomez
- Owen
- Double J

Not sure why Gomez isn't there. He has been prominent on the International scene lately. I'd love to see Dennis get in these fields. He would do some damage!

I can't tell if you were being sarcastic or not. His competition is Luat, Kiamco, and Gallego, who all play just as strong as Gomez.

I'd rather face Luat, Kiamco and Gallego for a first prize of $22,000 than the world 9-ball field for a first prize of $36,000.

He did say it was relatively easy and not easy.

And the guy that would probably be the #1 player in the world atm despite utter bullshit on the international pool scene stage, Wu. The rocket scientists in charge of this sport thought that it was a smart thing to remove the closest thing to pools version of Tiger Woods from competition. Such complete morons, completely oblivious of opportunities for this sport to progress and gain fan and sponser support.

He might be the best 9-Ball player I ever saw. But for the cash, Yang is the man! Wu's career hasn't been long enough to consider him among the all time greats. He needs to play about ten years in International competition.

Yeah, good luck with that, since he has basically been barred from the game since he won the 8-ball worlds. He is going to be a wasted talent due to the idiocy of many people who somehow managed to get the power to screw up this sport.

Its sad to see the lack of marketing leading up to this tournament. Look at the way Matchroom does it. They have understood that constant teasers, reminders, interviews, small news in the months before a big tournament is the way to go.

For the World Cup of Pool in September in Manila, they have naturally already started, the latest was the story here on AZ about the US team going to Manila.

Organizers of tournament underestimate again and again the power of using internet and media to promote their tournament and create interest for it. Kudos to Matchroom for the way they do it, most other promoters have a long way to go
